Dear Mr. Murdoch:
News Corporation's airing of an anti-trapping political advertisement is a slap in the face to America's sportsman-conservationists and should be terminated immediately.
The commercial that News Corporation approved as a public service announcement for broadcast on Fox Cable Networks is inflammatory, political propaganda. It was developed by the Humane Society of the United States, a national animal rights organization that strongly opposes trapping, hunting, and fishing and encourages its members to support legislation to ban the activities.
All 50 state wildlife management agencies support trapping. The same goes for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Forest Service and every other land management agency in America. In fact, they rely on it as a necessary tool to manage furbearing wildlife. Trapping has proven to be a critical element in the comeback of waterfowl populations, and wildlife managers, public health agencies and others consider trapping to be extremely important in protecting the public from outbreaks of diseases such as rabies.
Aside from its view on trapping, the Humane Society of the United States also campaigns to end hunting, animal agriculture, life-saving animal research, the use of animals in entertainment, and much more. Despite its misleading name the organization does not operate animal shelters.
Any promotion of the Humane Society of the United States and its anti-animal use agenda is unacceptable. Please stop airing the anti-trapping advertisement immediately.
I look forward to your reply.
Sincerely,
Toby Benoit
