www.pawpawfest.com/The ninth annual festival will be held on September 15 and 16, 2007. Festivals are held at Lake Snowden between Athens and Albany. There is a nice lake there for fishing and quite a few camping spots, unfortunately very little shade.

Awe, heck Faith, the festival will go on, crop or no crop!
Towns and such is always looking for a reason to hold a festival of some sort. Down in Sopchoppy, Fl. they just held the annual "Worm Grunting Festival". It was a big time, too!
They crowned the "Worm Grunting King and Queen" and heldd a parade and small fair with lots of vendors.
Here in Inverness, they host the annual "Cooter Festival". Yep, a week long event in honor of "Cooters"! Now, for you folks what don't know no better, a "Cooter" is the cracker term for a soft-shelled river turtle. However, the festival took on a wierd turn several years ago and has evolved more into a "Dukes Of Hazard" festival after inviting the actor Ben Jones, who played the character, "Cooter" on the old tv show.
Now, the poor turtle has been largely forgotten and the "Cooter" fetival lineup includes look a like contests for characters of the tv show, rides in a car made up to look like the General lee, the mayor dressing up in white and pretending to be "Boss Hog" for the day. Pretty damn dumb if you ask me, but the Rotary club gets the beer vending rights and they make a killing!

Looks like the festival is still a go for this weekend. Have been seeing bills for it all around Athens, but no schedule for acts. Any idea when JD Hutchinson plays? (He's got to be getting some age on him. I've got the Hutchinson Bros. vinyls from when they were out of Barnesville.) Mike and Rob want to see him. Guess Mike's family has known JD's for years. Gene said once that they all used to go hunting with the Britton gang. All I know is a brother of his played our wedding.
