Brian, All we got here was a bunch of wind and badly needed rain. Guess we were really blessed not to have had severe weather.
Phil, I'll try to send them to you by e-mail. That way if they are messed up I can blame someone ;D

About the same as we got then. I know you got the cold because we were at 28 in the backyard this morning when I got up. I might have gone out but had to do some run arounds with Mandy. Tomorrow is another day...

Brian, It was about 24 here this morning. I don't mind the cold so much if I can stay out of it ;D My main problem is it takes the truck so long to warm up. About 15 miles before I can pull off gloves and then another 10 before the cab is warm.

That is just too cold. I mean it too. Last year, I told my boss that I do not go out if the temp gets to 25 or less. I missed on 1/2 day all winter because he knew not to expect me until after it warmed to above 25. This year so far it's been about 30 for me.

On a average Ely Nevada is the coldest spot in the nation about ten days a year, but we have some of the best elk hunting around, I went with a friend the other day who had a tag and he shot a nice 7x7 that scored 408 gross a great bull but it was tough packing him out.

Sarge, Is it hard to draw an out of state tag for elk there? I have always wanted to go elk hunting but somewhere different than everyone else goes. Everyone from here goes to Co. and I would like to be different.

Sarge and Freddie, either of you two thought about the Idaho Elk hunt held at Dvovorshack Reservoir every year? The fourth one is already being planned for October 06 right now. Non-resident tags go on sale next month and will be gone by the end of January. I went last year to help with the cooking. Although I was sick as a dog and worn out because of it I had a ball. With license and tag the fee for a non-res hunter is just under five and a half. They are having about a fifty to sixty percent success rate with elk per hunter.

You know Paws, I've always wanted to try elk hunting. I won't be able to do a hunt like that this year, too tight right now. But if things work out with this new job, I might get a chance to go on a special hunt next year. There is a place about 2 hours from here that for about $350 will put you trophy hogs with dogs. That's a 2 or 3 day hunt, lodgeing, guide, cleaned and quartered. Not bad really when you consider it's a year round deal. I'll have to check with Matt to get the name of the place. I'll let you know.

Paw, I will have to ask the wife's permission ;D but you never can tell about women ;D Brian, There is a place between Texarkana and Mount Pleasant ( I think ) that offers elk hinting but I think it is high fence. I saw the sign when on I-30

No problem Bill. I'll share with you all I know. I'll even give you lessons but after that what to do for the rest of the morning . No really, Not a big deal, I learn something everytime I go out or at least try to. I started a thread in the hunting section so we don't tie up this one and hopefully we may get some others to join in and share their tips and tricks too.

Paw and Freddie , yes it is kind of tough to draw a tag here but if you get one I would take you out and I am sure we could a 350 bull or better, Paw I will look into that Idaho hunt. Idaho is not that far from here.

Dan, Is Nevada more expensive for out of state hunters than Co.? Paw mentioned theat Idaho was just a little less than $550 and that is still a little steep for me after figuring on gas and other things just to get out there and back here.

Kirbyhill,
If you're looking for a first class hog hunt, contact Harold Ross at Ross Hammock Ranch in Inglis, Fl. 352-303-7909. Tell him you're a friend of mine and talk to him about a hunt. He's got a dozen miles of ranch to hunt on that's overloaded with critters. Hogs are coming in and chowing down on his feeders and it's a great place to visit. You can fly into Tampa, round trip under a hundred bucks by southwest airlines.
I was just on the ranch to interview him for an article I'm doing on hog hunting and I was really impressed!
