I read on the NAFC BB that Winchester was closing its doors come the first of March. Have any of you heard of this yet?

YES, its true! :'(They are down to 200 workers and in March they will close shop! What a shame! Olin Industries in Missouri still own the Winchester name, I was told! Guess I will hold on to my old Winchesters as I sure have had my moneys worth from them........Bill

From what I've read, they are closing the Conneticut plant that makes the leverguns but the other plants that are over seas will stay opn. It's not the end of Winchester, but it is the end of American made Winchesters.

I've been promising myself a model 94 trapper carbine in .44mag. I'm in the process of scraping up enough money to buy it now. NO WAY am I gonna spend money on a Japanese made Winchester. Just something immoral about that somehow.
I'm only a few hundred short. Anybody wanna buy some books?

Good luck N2, time to sell the first born child!! , I believe they've been owned by some Belgium company for years now.....I have an old 94, in 30-30.....Now I'm going to try that Hornady Lever Evolution in 160gr, if it ever gets into the stores in my area....supposed to do the trick....maybe its worth finding an older 94 and just go 30 cal???

I have heard conflicting reports. I heard all of the above, and I actually called Winchester last week one day for another reason but while on the line with them asked about what was happening. The lady in the parts service dept. said that that 1 plant is shutting down, but the name and guns will still be made overseas in Japan and/or Germany. But, at a local gunshop 2 days ago the owner said he'd been told by the Winchester rep in this area that the 94 and 70 will be gone completely, and only the new auto rifle and auto shotgun will be made still. There is no chance we will see the 70s or 94s dry up as there have been several million 94s made and many thousands of 70s made which are still floating around. In the short term the prices will go up as news of the closing gets around, but then in a few years the prices will fall again. The 94 is sure to be offered by Rossi or Tauruus sooner rather than later as soon as the patents end if indeed they are not made by Winchester any more. The 70 action design as well will probably be around by someone. Dakota already makes the OLD 70 action and the Ruger 77 is basically the same thing as well.

Shiloh and all,
This was on the 12 noon news yesterday a PR Lady from Winchester was on and she said ..the "94" "70" and the "1300" will be gone.... ie.... "no longer made at this time" WFA/Olin have several other plants in the States that will continue to make or assembel the other firearms and ammo...
