Oh, thanks Jayme. Just what I needed to hear before I go to the annual NRA banquet. I think I'll just go buy something, take it to the banquet and tell the guy to call any number and I'll raise my hand and come pick it up. At least everyone will "Think" I won something Rich

Rich, was surprised to hear that you have a LC Smith! Too bad that its in rough shape :'(I would have been all too glad to have tried to make a deal with you for it. My favorite shotguns are my two LC Smiths--one is a 12 ga. and the beautiful one is a 20 ga. I won a custom leather engraved shotgun case by Chance Shelton aka Levergun on Steve Terry's benefit auction on the HHH site. ;D Don't know if they would do any damage to your turkeys but am willing to give it a try. Hope you luck out at your banquet........Bill

Bill,
Like I said, it's been in the closet for about three years and I didn't even know it was an LC Smith until yesterday. For some reason just got it out to look at it real good. It is really rough though. I'll bring it along the next time we get together and let you look at it.

Jayme,
I think you are right. At least that's the way it has been at nearly every one of these things I have attended. Maybe I'll start charging to sit at my table ;D

Dont feel bad Rich, your not alone. Never had any luck at winning anything. Last year 4 couples went on a motorcycle ride, each time we stopped for coffee, gas or a pee stop, we bought scratch off lottery tickets. My wife and I won ---- Zippooooo. One couple won 100.00, one couple won 25.00 and the third couple won 2500.00. The third couple never even bought lunch or anything for the rest of us -- Cheap #^87W%&^%

I have the old standby 870 wingmaster 12 ga, an Ithaca 12 ga side by side, an Olympic 20ga side by side and a Parker 20 ga side by side.
As you can tell, I'm partial to sbs's.

Another fan of the side by sides! I love them! Though the only one I have now is a Savage 12 ga.. Best gun I ever owned was a Lefever ( Ithaca) side by side 20 ga.. It was stolen and I haven't found another one.

I have two side by sides and both are L.C.Smiths. The 12ga. was given to be by my Dad when I was twelve! The 20 ga. I stole ($180.00) from a guy who needed cash to go to Florida!! The 20 is absolutely beautiful and doesn't even look like its been fired..with a cheek piece. Love those doubles........Bill

Youngest son just added his first shotgun to the cabinet yesterday by way of a $25 auction "find".
Diamond Arms (Iver Johnson) 12ga. Not much to look at, but she shoots straight and kicks like a bay mule!
Mom tried to buy a Stevens 16ga, but still needs tires for the 'Possom Van.

That Iver Johnson isn't a Damascus barrel is it??? I hope not. I'm sure you know that they can be dangerous. One of these folks with more experience than me can probably give you an idea. How about it folks? Is there any chance that the shotgun the young man has is a Damascus?? How might one be able to tell?

Thanks for your concern. We've had it checked out. ;D Mike took the Diamond down to his brother to look at. He does a little gunsmithing on the side. If it is an Iver Johnson made gun, it's not quite as old as he thought it is. It's got a fluid steel barrel and a modified choke. A gun collecting friend of ours was there and said that J. Stevens also manufactured Diamond Arms. He thinks it's probably a Stevens and most likely from the late-'30s. Missed out on a Cresent Arms 16 ga side by side at this same auction. It went super cheap. But like Mike said, needed tires for the van. Another day, a better gun.
