Yep! It didn't try to leave my hand the way the S&W .500 did, but it was pretty tough on recoil. After five shots, my right thumb joint was getting pretty sore. However, I also tried the single action design of the Ruger .480 and found it much more manageable. What are you looking to tote such a HAWG for that you can't eliminate with a good .44Mag? About five months ago I started looking for a new handgun to carry with me when I'm bowhunting dangerous game (boar hogs). I've been carrying a Colt Python in .357 for a number of years and although I've never depended on it to stop a charging boar, I know that such a situiation can come up. I also carried a .45acp on a number of hunts, I want to start hunting the Seminole Indian Reservation again and them damn redskins imported a bunch of Russian boar to breed into the feral population in order to get the size and teeth larger. Problem is, it makes them a lot meaner too! So, I started shopping for hand cannon's. I looked at the Uberti .45long colt in Single action, which I ruled out. The Taurus .44Mag double action, the Taurus .454 double action, the Ruger single action .480, the Ruger .44Mag. Redhawk and the S&W .500. Of the guns I've fired, I'm sold on the Rugers in either the .480 or the .44mag. Both of these guns were faster to bring into play from a standard hip holster and were very accurate. I'm currently saving a little money aside each month for the .480.

I suppose I want it just because Toby. Its something not everyone else has. That plus I just plain like Taurus designs.
I figured on the low number of shots one wants to fire at a time, but just to practice with you can shoot regular 45's through it.
I was thinking I would sight it in for the casull, then practice with the lighter cartridge.
I tell you another one of their revovlers I like is the new "Taurus Judge" that shoots both 45 colt and 410 shot shells. It'd be a fun gun to play with at the range, shoot rats, and good home protection. If you havent seen it, its in their new catalog, but not on the web page yet.

A buddy up in Rock Island bought one just after they first came out. Traded his 45 Colt in on it. Couple months later the Federalis paid him a visit wanting to know how his 45 ended up in a Chicago liquor store robbery. Gun store dude had it stolen and didn't have time to report it (so he says) That mother is a real wrist breaker man.

Yep, I've seen "The Judge", but never fired one. It looks like the perfect sidearm for fishing down here. You have no idea how many times I've been chased off of the riverbank by a moccosin. That'd fix his wagon, and I guarantree if someone ever grabbed a hold of you, he'd turn loose awfully damn quick! I bought a .38 Derringer I load with .38 caliber "rat-shot" when I go fishing now and it's worked on a couple of snakes so far, but you gotta be inside ten yards or you're still liable to miss them. Sumbitch shoots all over the place. I can't complain though. I bought it off a nig... uh, African American at a gas station one night for forty bucks. It's probably hotter that Rachel Ray, but it serves its purpose.

I like the Taurus revolvers also. That Raging Bull is a sweet design and competitively priced compared to the Rugers and S&W's. I did an article on my handgun shopping and submitted it around to a few gun catalogs, but none were interested. It seems if you aren't Weishun or Boddington or one of them known writers, you ain't got a chance. That, or I'm just no good! Best of luck with the Bull!

I came upon this article by an aquaintance of mine, Johnny Krull. He's real gun nut and a pretty good writer. I met him at a hunt hosted by Golden Eagle in the late nineties. He had a sweet Desert Eagle in .357 all tricked out with skeletonized trigger and muzzle break that shot sweeeeet! Anyway, here's his experience with the big .454 by Taurus. I ove the part in the article where he said he'd fired it eighty times that day and both hands and both arms and both shoulders were killing him on the ride home. lol! I'd have never made it past twenty round! ;D www.gunweek.com/2004/feature1020.html

Have any of you handled or fired the new Ruger Redhawk with 4" barrel? KRH-444 in the '07 catalog on page 45. Looks like that would tuck up under your arm and carry well. I'm not sold on the grip though. It may be fine, but it doesn't look like your pinky finger will contribute much toward holding on to it.

No I haven't, but plan on it. 4" might be a little short for a hunting weapon, but you're right about concealability. Much better option for CC permit holders.
