I'd like to add a set of these to my scopes on my carbine and rifles. Any suggestions on what brands, types, etc to get?

Paws,go to any major catalog like Cabelas and there you'll find a diagram on how to measure both ends of the scope......Once yah do that ,you order by size. I cant give you any brand info though.........

Most pop up covers atre pretty decent. There are several brands and a couple of different types of caps. Ones with a yellow see thru plastic and other that are solid balck plastic. Both work well. Make sure you get the correct size so they fit real tight on the scope bell(s). I have lost several in the woods as they were a bit too loose and slipped off in the brush.

So they are just a "friction" fit. OK then. I liked the idea of them because I keep losing those stringed caps and of course you always got to wrestle with a pocket when you remove them. then there is so much movement too. Thanks for the info.

You know I hadn't even thought about putting a scope on this theoretical ML I'm planning to get. Guess it might be a good idea to do that. Thanks Chuck. I guess the next question is..

Hey Phil, I have used the Butler Creek flip caps for over 20 years and found that if you wrap some elec. tape around them they will stay in place no matter what type of brush you push through.

Paws: Don't use the adhesive, take some 80 grt. paper and rough up the scope the caps will have some thing to grab then.

Using crocus cloth or snadpaper on your scope rings will damage the finish and degrade the value of the scope should you want to trade or sell it. A drop of rubber cement works well and cleans right off should you want to remove it.

Paws if you get the rite size B.C. covers for your scope you dont have worry about them falling off,or h2o,blood hirt, gress, and grine getting to your lenses. Did not think you were dumb enough to sand a scope with 80grt papper or any thing else,or use any glue on it. If you have to use some thing to keep the covers on use vinyl electrical tapelike Scotch Super 33+,

I have a question about the popups! Do they change the distance in your eye relief, or are they up high enough that they dont get in your way of shooting! I never have used them myself, but they do look like a great way to keep a cover on! Sincerely stereO

The pop open scope lens covers do not change the eye relief one bit. They also do not cause any interference if you are wearing a hat, unless you wear a hat with a bill that is a foot long! ;D

Good to hear that rumors of your passing were somewhat exagerated ;D ;D! There is no change in eye relief & yer coonskin blockheater won't interfere either! I've been using Butler Creek caps for 20 + yrs & I havn't found better. I've also never had a problem with them falling off either & I have them on more than 20 scopes. The only scopes I don't use them on are Litchert,Davis,Unertl, etc. which have screw on steel caps, some of which we've had to machine. The only fault we've found is that in -30 F , they're stiff & may break the trigger off on release, but somehow I don't think you're too concerned with -30 F. ;D

I have run into a couple that don't want to release when the trigger is pressed. What's the fix for that?
