Hi Phil! ;D ;D If it's what I think it is(?) The sear on the trigger maybe worn somewhat & in honest- to-goodness, teeth clattering, snotsickles in your womb-broom type cold, the plastic parts contract & creat a problem, when you try to force it. The other thing is maybe the spring not having the strength to open the hatch. When I'm travelling to a hunt location,if there's a possibility for a sudden shot, I leave the ocular lense cover open when it's slung on my shoulder as it's pointed down & nothing can fall onto it. I do the same when I'm on stand, with the objective lens covered, leaning on or hanging from a branch. The front one is quieter to open also. You might try lubing the hinge on the ocular cover.I've not had the problem often enough to include a lube job on my lens protectors, but maybe I should! I think moly or teflon would fill the bill of requirements for cold weather lube of lens covers. come to think of it, if we wanted,I'm sure with the right marketing tactics(different colors,Spray, ointment or creme, pump bottle or eye dropper)maybe we could buy a villa in Mexico & sit around all day & tell stories! Sounds close to what I'm doing already!! ;D ;D But I think the weather's broken. I think that's enough, try it out if you havn't already!! ;D

OK I can oil, grease and or coat. Can you guys come up with any inventive ways to fix or repair the spring or lever/trigger without destroying it or needing to replace it? Hey I know maybe wecan design a kalidascopic iris kind of like they use on Star Gate!

Paws,
Rather than use a grease which attracts dirt, or something with a solvent that may attack the plastic, try talcum powder on the moving parts...graphite is too nasty and black, and talc is the next best dry lube.
I also use Butler Creek pop-up caps.

Now why didn't I know About talc? I always have a can with me for diaper rash ;D ;D! Funny thing you know, just about everybody that razzed me about the "baby powder", has borrowed it at one time or another! I have an old ocular cap. I'll dowse it in"Breakfree" & seal it in a ziplock & place it on a heat register to accelerate things & check for damage in 6 mo. or so
