My buddy is reworking his old rifle for his newborn. Not too bad of shape but the butt plate (phenolic) is busted up. Anybody know where I can get a replacement?

Call Jack First, Inc. 605-343-9544 or fax a description of what you need to them at 605-343-9420. That'd be my first call and if that craps-out check at www.gunpartscorp.com. I'm not familiar with that make or model. Sure you didn't mean H&R? Or is it a Sears gun?

Yest it is a Sears Gun. I'm familiar enough with the design though that I can 99.999 percent for certain statethat it was mfg by JC Higgens. I may be off ion the modelnumber. It is your typical bolt action single with a pull button hammer. Looks like shit but the bore is cherry.

Sounds like a Higgins, but I'll have to check my cross reference.

So far I have not found a model 141 .22 in any make. It probably is a Higgins or a J.Stevens, but I can't be sure without seeing it.

Shiloh I have the rifle at home now and as soon as season is over want to work on it. I'll send you some pics or post them here. I hadn't noticed before but the bolt is either chromed or stainless. Has a couple rust spots on it. I'll look at it more closely when I have time to see what it really is. Kenny followedmy advice and had the stock covered with baking soda for the past three months. The gujmmy black oil that had soaked into the stock beneath the barrel is only a memory. The stock should clean up with a little Formby's and maybe some tongue oil. Grain is pretty nice and in real good condition.

Keep me posted. Glad the stock is doing well.
