Every turkey hunter needs to carry a few different calls with him in the woods to make a variety of sounds until he hits on the one that fires that gobbler up. The turkey wants to hear a certain kinda voice out there that sounds good to him. It's like a phone sex line with a sixty years old, two pack a day smoker, with a bad wheeze woman from Brooklyn on the other line vs. a twenty something, sultry Georgia peach talking back at ya.
Same with the turkey, he don't wanna talk with no skank! So, you gotta try a few different ones to attract him.
Naturally, I'll start calling with one of my box calls and if I don't get the response I'm looking for, I'll switch over to a friction call. This year, It'll be one of Brian's calls I switch too! This man has done impressed me (and that's hard to do!) with a few of his calls.
He's built one that's less than a half-inch thick and he put something secret in the pot to bump up the volume and that baby carries the tune now! He's got several different models with different sounds and all of them are beauties.
He also went against tradition when making his strikers and improved on a couple hundred year old design. Yep, he did too! I'm sworn to secrecy as to what he did, but you can bet that nobody else is doing it! It makes that striker play awesome when scratched across that calls surface producing some of the most realistic purrs a guy could want.
I'm not smart enough to know how to post the pictures on here, but I will forward them to Paws and see if he can put them up. (how's about it old buddy?)
Even if you don't hunt them yourself, you should pass on the knowledge to a buddy that does. If he gets one, he'll thank you for the tip, I guarantee!

Ya'll ain't seen nothing yet!!!!!!
I gotta tell you, I've had the honor of testing out a few of these calls and the more he builds the better he gets.
I sent him a slice of agate a few months ago I had bought to make a call out of, but I just couldn't figure out how to thin it properly and seat it properly to get the right sound, so I sent it to Brian.
Well, just guess what I got back in the mail today inscribed, "The Toby Special"? It's in a layered pot of alternating hardwoods with an open bottom and a resonance board inside of it. All of the edges are rounded smooth for a really nice feel in your hand and the woods are polished so high that I can glimpse my own reflection.
I'm not blowing smoke up anybody's ass around here either. This call is georgeous! He thinned and seated the agate, which is a deep, deep blue into the pot seamlessly. An absolute perfect fit.
Brian, I'm floored! A custom call like this at the big shows would fetch a fortune!
The sound is pretty good with the smooth surface, but as with any friction call it needs to be roughed up for the striker to bite into it....but I haven't got the heart to do it, it's just to pretty to play! THANK YOU!

Brian you need to put your email address for your turkey calls into your signature element on all the forums you use. That will get it into the Google Search routine responding to any combination of words you may find in the address. You also need to add the phrase "Custom Turkey Calls" to expand the possibility of hits. I am experimenting with developing a blind page that will provide many different phrases and stimulate hits on Ohio Camp Cooks to try to give you a little exposure thdere. Othmar, Shilohbrat, any idea what I need to do to set up a pointer page that nobody ever sees? If so shoot me an email.

...Othmar, Shilohbrat, any idea what I need to do to set up a pointer page that nobody ever sees? If so shoot me an email. Sorry Paws, I have no idea how to do that in a proboard forum I am searching for this feature too. On the other hand more and more search engines ignore keywords and look for matching words in the general content of the pages. Blame it on websites that have a many as 200 keywords per page. Google calls it "keyword spamming" and punishes such sites by ranking them very low in their search. The new trend is content in the website and frequent updates of content. In this regard a forum such as this or my SHS Hunting Chat Forum are perfect candidates for this type of search due to the nature of a forums frequent updated content.

Dang, no wonder I'm having so much trouble getting hits for my "Blond female midget 18 year old wealthy nymphomaniac lady who owns a bar" search!

Blondes have finer hair and it doesn't tangle so easily! (That's why they make better wrestlers!)

Those really do look sharp. Brian's skills are consistently improving and one day soon I suspect he won't even know any of us anymore.

Just had to say hello. I have been very busy lately with call making and some shows and calling contests. You can check out e-bay now and see some of the calls as we get them in there. Just do a search for brian warner and they will pop up for you.

I do that every once in a while Brian. Glad to see that you and Toby are doing well. Now if we can get Steven's wood carvings off the dime and get Tony's knives to triple sales I might just switch back to the positive side of my "bi-polar" Likert scale!
