Great site! Some of the songs, especially by the country singers took me back to a place I have not been in 40+ years. To be honest I did not hear much music while there. But,I heard sounds I would rather forget, and for the most part have been able to do so. The memories of that time are burned in my soul and I will take them to the grave.Just my opinion..... snake-eyes

I can't disagree with your opinions...
Still can't forget the smells sometimes..
My wife, till this day, tells me I sleep wildly sometimes..
Only a person thats has gone through it could understand...

One of my closest friends and hunting pal was over there in the late 60's-early 70's. They live in a 2 story house, and he has worked nightshift on maintenance at the plant for ages. He asked his wife not to run the vacuum upstairs when he is sleeping during the day because when it wakes him up, the thumping of the beater bar sounds just like incoming choppers to him.
I am also very cautious (out of respect and self preservation) about surprising him or waking him suddenly. Difference in him and the wannabe's...he will not talk about over there. One time when he had a bit to drink, he started to tell some things, then stopped himself and said, "No, if you didn't have to go through that, and there is no need to tell you that horror story." I do know he was on river patrol in the USMC and was captured...he escaped, but still has a lot of ghosts from the past.
I have a lot of respect for all you guys, and a debt of gratitude for the sacrifices you made...my number was up when they ended the draft, so I didn't go, but would have if I had been called.

My bio dad (Thomas Dale Perry) was drafted to Vietnam at 17 USMC. He stepped on a mine and grabbed his (jewels) and let go, lost one leg and his pretty face. Of course he was never the same. Drank himself to death. Could never imagine and would not want too but will ALWAYS remember those that sacrafice their lives and sanity for ours. To bad more don't WAKE UP and stop living in this materialistic world.
Glad to see this topic, always good to show respect. AND THANK YOU TO ALL HERE THAT SERVED AND CONTINUE TO GIVE THEIR LIVES FOR OURS THROUGH ALL PUBLIC SERVICE.
