Can ANYONE tell me what branch of service or maybe what war my Grandfather's uniform is from? (could possibly be my great grandfather) I was adopted and received this photo from a cousin (all are past away) so no one knows what war/service. His son (my father) was Marines, maybe he was too? Appreciate any help.HARVEY Z. PERRY

Princess that appears to be a WW1 US Army (Doughboy) uniform making it likely that he is your Great Grandfather.

Thanks Paws.. I think you are right...we were guessing WWI... but no idea as there is no one to back up the story.

Since you have his name you might try one of those ancestor sites or something similar.

Check with vital statistics in the state he was from. You should be able to put a family tree together with the info or at least a few branches

Is your Dad still alive? If so start with him. If not you might be able to get your Grand Fathers Birth certificate which will show the name of both your Great Grandparents. Then you can take his name to the Military Personnel records center and get a copy of his service record and discharge papers. Even his medals, campaigns etc. It is difficult to see but I think the insignia on his color is the Signal Corps. I might be able to mess with the picture some and get a better idea. In any case; nice pics!

Bio father died in 1994, Hep C - Cirrhosis of the liver. His last relative (except us kids/cousins) are all dead as of 2006. I met the family in 2003 and did not have a chance to meet his last living brother. No one to ask in other words that know anything. My sisters only knew him when he rode with Banditos and those were some interesting stories but not much with honor.
I did request my fathers paperwork from Marines. Good with a gun. He was walking through jungle during enemy fire when he stepped on a mine and felt it. He stopped and told others to get away and he "grabbed the family jewels" and lifted his foot and thats when he lost the leg and his pretty face. Glad he grabbed the jewels or I wouldnt be here.
I just might have my grandfathers dob as I could swear I found his obit once and it had it. Thanks.. great idea.. will see about getting his birth or death cert as I do still live in the city he died in.
