There's a couple of bear attractants you might consider. The company that makes the aerosol Buck Bombs, also makes Bear Bombs. I seent hem advertised in the Bass Pro catalog. It puts out a wickedly nasty stench that bears find irresistable...so the ad says.
Also, a company called, "Smokin Sticks" puts out a product called "Twelve Miles Of Dead Fish". It's insence sticks that you clear an area on the ground and let them smolder. The scent is good to draw critters from as far away as five hundred yards. I've used their Doe In Heat insence sticks and let the smoke sort of drift down into thick cover where I know the deer are bedded and have killed bucks coming in following the smoke trail. Might work for bear also and it's not bait since there's nothing for them to eat.
Kill your bear and be sure the CO finds out! Fuggum!

We have been using the Bear Bombs. Sow in Heat, anise oil and hickory smoked bacon and the bears have been ignoring it. The only thing that got a response was the wal=mart dog food but we can only use it for scent so we have to figure a better way of a scent only method of use. The problem is this CO's definition of bait which could include even the bear bombs if the liquid got on something and a bear licks or eats what it fell on. My trailcam was licked and moved around because I got the liquid from the dog food on the casing so by definition the camera was bait. By his definition I would be unable to set a trap as well.

Never heard of it Snake, but I'll poke around fo it. Mars, I was going to suggest that you put the wally-World dog food in a perforated steel container and let the bears knock it around. They can't eat it, but it'll give 'em something to do. But if tjhe A-hole CO wanted to he could claim any crumbs that came from it are bait, so..... Prolly can't do a honey burn either can you? Gawdamn riles are set up against you no matter which way you go. It's be easier to just hunt the bear the way you want and whoop the CO's ass if he gave you to much crap about it.

I ordered the Smokin sticks for bear and we will give them a try though I tried them a few years ago for deer and the results were nothing.
I know what the law states but Tn gives the CO's to much leeway and pretty much let them make stuff up as the interpret the law. CO's are here are crooked anyway. We had one that was convicted last year of confiscating hunters firearms then selling them back to them. Another a few years ago allowed a CO from another State to turkey hunt in his Tn. area with no license or check in because that CO was going to allow him to hunt in his State.
This CO's best option is to avoid me the rest of the season.

This guy may be out by himself one day and you know he could be seriously injuried by a bear....aka Mars!! They just take the fun out of hunting!!
Maybe if several of you complain to the State that they may get his butt out of your county...it is worth a try.

One of the responses I got back. You will notice the sentence that says it's the "judgement of the officer" and not really Law.
Mr. Lockwood, I am the regional manager for this east TN area and I will look into the issues you have raised. There is no legal/illegal distance set in law between the baiting site and where the hunter is actually hunting. Right now this is call of the ground distance of bait from a hunter, and if the bait is influencing the movement of game animals is decided by the officer in the field. I will be talking with the supervisor of these officers about this incident and also find out who the other officer was.
I talked with my attorney and he advises to let it drop and if I don't have anymore issues this year then to forget and move on but if I did to report it back to him.

Up to the judgement of the officer.
Huh, why not drop the legal intoxication limit for motorists and let the cops decide for thmeselves if a motorist's impaired or not?
Heck, why have a legal age of consent too, let the cop decide if the gal's mature enough to breed?
Dumbass law if you ask me.

I just sent them another e-mail over this;
"Miller’s permit was purchased by her husband, Andy, for $17,700 as the high bidder in an auction to benefit the state’s elk restoration program."
Tn. just had it's so called, first legal elk hunt in 150 years and Mrs. Millers husband won the permit via auction on ebay. I asked the TWRA director when the State suspended it's law against transfering a license from one person to another.
Mr. Miller won the permit by auction. Fine and dandy. Tn. has a Law against transfering a license or permit to another person. There where 4 other hunters that got permits via draw. Shouldn't they be allowed to give that permit to someone else then?

Mars, keep on their backs...don't give in to them..that is what they want you to do...maybe another lawyer!!

I got an answer. They "created" a new "law" that allows a person to transfer a ELK permit to another as long as the TWRA gets a written notice 30 days prior to the hunt.
Of course it ONLY applies to ELK. Discrimination?!

The juvenile deer gun hunt is this weekend. We haven't put too much effort into this but I'll be taking her out. She wants to hunt a draw we saw doe deer in regularly last year. No stand. We will just walk in and drop off the road and sit and wait.
Nov. 2nd the bear gun season opens and we will be back at the former "baited" spot.

On the evening news from Huntington, WV...they were telling of 8 Ohioans being arrested for baiting bears with donuts and corn. Interesting!! There were no details only of the arrest and what was being used for bait.
Mars, WV must have your Game Wardens' cousins??

I saw that too. But donuts and corn?? How do they know it was bear bait? Add a beer and isn't that the average West Virginian's meal?? Sugary yeast donuts and corn could also very well be the starts of a good batch of shine.

Cousin?! It was probaly the same game warden and he just made it to WV. I can see him crawling on the ground, huffing and puffing, muttering, no set legal distance, no set legal distance. It'll explain why he hasn't been around here. When we bait in Tn. we get serious enough to influence animal movements all the way to canada. ;D
