We went out yesterday and it was nice and calm with temps in the mid 60's. By daylight the wind started picking up and by 8am it was blowing the leaves off the trees creating a leaf "rain". Pretty but dang! About 10am it started to drizzle and by 10:30 am it was a downpour so we left and got back to the truck about 11:20am. We saw 1 squirrel.
It rained all day but stopped about 4pm so despite my daughter not wanting to go I packed her up and we went back. We get back to the spot around 5pm and it starts pouring again and by 5:30 we are soaked again. We left at 6pm without seeing so much as a crow.

I get into the stand about 6:30 this morning and 10 minutes later I hear something running across the ridge to my right. I stand and turn and here comes a little bear(the 150 pounder) running behind the stand at about 40 yards. Gun season is now open and I had my 20ga Mossberg. He runs and stops behind a tree and looks back then runs and stops behind another tree and looks back again. He does that until I cannot see him anymore.
About 20 minutes later the 300 pounder shows up in front of the stand. I never got a shot because I could not get a clear shot.
30 minutes after he leaves a spike and a rack buck walk past and presented easy shots, if the season was open. I'm not sure but the one buck looked to be a 5-6 pointer.
Tomorrow morning I'm changing and going to sit on the ridge.

Nope. I wouldn't risk it with that screw-ball warden y'all have down there.

That three-hunnert pounder mighta been that goofy game warden incognito; trying to catch you putting out some bait. Make sure you look for a zipper before you pull the trigger, lolol!
By the way, I put some corn out this afternoon out behind the house. I'll let ya know when it's cleaned up so you can go back to hunting again.

I tried that 12 miles of dead fish and the Anise Smoking sticks. The fish ones are NOT what they advertise. The closest thing I can related it to is a cigarette smell and not strong at all and it burned out in an hour. The anise is what I used this morning and I believe it was working. It has a nice Anise smell going out and burned for over 2 hours.

Finally took a day off and went hunting. I took my much younger brother Dave with me and we took our muzzleloaders up to Cedar Key, Fl to hunt with my friend Crichton Allen who operates a huntig preserve called, Tiger Island Outfitters.
Between us we put three hogs in the coolers, totaling over two hundred pounds of prcessed meat. Yep; they was big ones!
Dave got charged twice by two different hogs at close quarters, both of which he killed at point blank range, but one of them caught him in the right leg before he could drop a bullet into her brain! He wasn't hurt, but shook up quite a bit.
It was an exciting and memorable hunt. The weather couldn't have been any better at all and the game was really moving.
We even took time off in the evening to do a little catfishing in one of his ponds and put a bunch of the whisker faced rascals on ice.
I'll get pictures posted soon. ;D ;D ;D

I set up 4 sticks of the wild berry smoking sticks and 2 groups of 3 sticks of the anise at daylight this morning. I didn't see a thing so I left at 9:30. Not even a squirrel was moving but there was a huge bear "pie" not 6 feet from the stand. I figured a big bear came through during the night and ran everything out.
Muzzleloader deer opens Saturday but I'm not planning to hunt so I have time to get ready to head north.
We arrive at the farm and find the straps on my daughters treestand had been cut recently. Suspecting it was the same jerk as last year we go over and find his "hunting" area and again he had painted yardage markings on most of the trees and generaly destroyed the area. We repair the stand and put mine up in his "hunting" area. I then contact the owner and complain to him of the actions of the other so called hunter. He said he had called the other 2 hunters and told them to stay off the property on opening weekend and they were PO'd and that was probaly the reason the stand was messed with.
Nov. 14, Indiana
morning, Meghan sees a buck and several does but has no shots. I see squirrels.
evening, A big 8 pointer runs to my stand, jumps a 6 foot high deadfall and stands 20 yards away staring at me. I drop him with one shot. He lays there for about 5 minutes trying to get up so I call Meghan over to finish him off. She walks over and the buck gets up part way but she says she cannot get a shot. I tell her to shoot it before it got up. She moves and the deer gets up and runs about 10 feet and falls. She shoots and I thought she hit it but it gets up and runs off across a ravine and I fire a hail mary shot at it. We never found it.
About 8 am a 7 pointer comes out of the woods and goes to check a scrape on the edge of the soybean field. Meghan shoots and drops the buck with a deliberate spine shot then finishes it with a lung shot. Another "hunter" was hunting 50 yards from her stand in his backyard on the edge of the field and she wasn't going to allow him to shoot her buck so when she was presented with just the spine shot, she took it. The other "hunter" leaves.
The other "hunter" hunts illegaly on the property and the owner removed one of his stands 2 days earlier that was only 25 feet from the one my daughter was in. He was technicaly barely on his property opening day so there was nothing we could do even though he was facing the field. We have had run ins with this guy for several years now.
evening,
A small deer runs down a ravine. I wasn't interested but watched it and at the bottom it became 2 small deer. Another must have run down the blind side of the hill at the same time. They approach within 20 yards so I raise my gun even though I really didn't want the small deer but I don't turn down an easy kill. I see a deer "flag" on top of the ravine and a deer trot off(probaly the other deers' mother) and so do the deer and they run up the ravine. I drop one with a neck shot.

I shot 3 all together and I wasn't even trying and she got the only rack buck but missed 2 others and several does. Her shotgun now sports a new scope. Her flinching is extreme and with a scope I know the gun is correct. If she doesn't stop the flinching she will never hit anything consistently.
I'll fire up the grill whenever you or anybody show up.

OK ET. Where's the pics? We are still waiting for last years!
The game warden hasn't showed his head at the property since our "talk". I hope he got an ear full from his boss.
My daughters friend has been deer hunting on the property and since they were there first and we are their guests we have not hunted it for bear. They said they still see the bears from time to time but not regularly. Most are in hibernation now. The season is open but I'll wait until deer is out before going after the bear again though the chance of getting one is at the minimal now. Dang game warden messed up our best chance.
