One's coming up in a local estate auction (in original box with cleaning tools, ect.). Thinking about using it as an everyday piece when running to the house for the shotgun is out of the question. Anyone have one or know anything about it? Value? I don't know much about Iver Johnson as I've pretty much been an H&R and Winchester shotgun packer.
Would LOVE to find an H&R Sidekick 9 up for sale! Back before everyone got so damned paranoid, I took mom's in LOADED for 3rd grade show-and-tell day. Teacher made sure it was unloaded and kept in his desk though. Pretty sure mom sold it to come up with gas money when she bought a young bull out of Ontario though.

Go see what Gander Mountain and Cabelas have in stock. That 410/45 combo single action revolver would be a good yard gun. I think it was under 300. They have one at Ohio Vally Trading. Give you the flexibility of dropping a yote or a bear. I would not carry a 22 for anything other than rats and snakes. Yes, I know it'll kill a cougar with the right shot but..... I want some firepower.

We'll have to consult with Martin about the firepower of a .22 Seems he's brought in his fare share of "antlered squirrels" and "long legged field rats" with his. But like you say, "with the right shot" a .22 can take down a 1-ton bull or a double skulled hog. Not that I have any intentions of having either on my place anytime soon.

If you can get it around ninety bucks go ahead...otherwise, just keep on looking. They aren't all that great of a gun. If it's a .22 you want. American heritage manufactures one here in Florida on the same design as t he Ruger Single Six with interchangeable cylinders from .22LR to .22Mag. Five inch barrel with fixed sights and run new in box about $175. Otherwise, yep, go with Taurus's "The Judge" the .45/.410 revolver...a real handy gun!!!

The 22LR/22Mag combo would be a really great plinker. The magnum loads are respectable fire power as well. They had a set up like that up here a couple years back that was a really nice firearm for under 200. Wish I had bought it. The look alikes here now are really sorry. There is a matched pair of Ruger Single Six's in a display case at OVT. One with a shorter barrel. Didn't notice the price.

My snake gun is an RG 22LR that I keep loaded with bird shot. It is valued at twenty to fifty dollars! Imported from Germany in the 60s and distributed out of Florida.

yep HR's aren't worth much, I have an old break action .22lr revolver that needs the rear sight, believe it is a 10 shot, checked online many years ago and they sight was more than the pistol was worth, may have to try and make one myself since it is just flat stock with a V in it.
DUH....looked at top post again and it's an IJ not HR, either way they are not high dollar guns

You know Slim those luminiscent shotgun sights ought to be tall enough to use on that for a rear sight. They are just "stick on" so if you ain't happy with it pull it back off.

the mount is in place, just needs a set screw and thin piece of flat metal w/the V.
It was a free pistol, used it for break action example gun when I was teaching Hunter Ed. I have a couple other Ruger's, Single Six and Mk II that I will pack if I want a .22. Just threw out the comment that sometimes the cost to fix a gun is more than the gun is worth.
I'm in the hunt now for a 1911. Been eyeballing the Sig Sauer's, think I will pick one up if I have a good fire season. It's time for idiots to go out playing with matches, or drug runners to burn up their competitions smuggling corridor.

I've seen my dad take vertebra from turkey neck and fit several guns with sights, one bone works well for the front and an another for the rear. Maby Toby might know. A 22 with turkey sights will hit a dime at 50 yards all day.
