Sounds like a great day for sure Carter! I'd love to fish one of the great lakes. The biggest lake I've been on is Ponchartrain in LA, and Okeechobee down here in FL. Can't neither one of these hold a candle to Erie!
I pulled out the old cane pole (actually a collapsable fiberglass model 16' long) and rigged me up a hook, bobber, and split-shot, then I grabbed a bucket's worth of worms out of the worm bed and headed to the dock on the Withlacoochee River yesterday. I caught nineteen bream and two small catfish before running out of worms.
I threw them all back since I've got plenty in the freezer still, but I hate to watch TV and if I didn't go fishing, I'd have found some work to do and I sure didn't want to do that!

My doctor told me that I can drive a car again. The back is healing up nicely. That means I can go to my favorite fishing hole next weekend and by then hopefully try out Brian's lures.
If I can go I will let you all know how it went.

Close Paws. Used to be that a Tn. resident fishing with live bait, sans minnows, in his county of residence did not need a license. Trout excluded. Now however you have to purchase a $6. license even for that. The fed system of giving out the sales tax money to the states based solely on the number of licenses sold in the state changed all that. Now even seniors need a $1. license. Thanks Mars! It's hell trying to remember how it used to be and thinking it is still the same!

Fishing's gonna be screwed up for a week or so. They never bite after a hurricane and we got one slippin' in the backdoor. It's rainig like hell right now, but thankfully the wind's not that bad yet. They eye's gonna be over the house around two in the morning they say, so my fishing's done for awhile.

Just batten down the hatches and hang on tight buddy. Mom and Papa are still in Ct so they'll be fine. Take care of yourself and let us know how you fare

Othmar, don't overdo it. That soft tissue takes a while to heal from a deep bruise. Just go slow.

Just received this: Thank You Phil for the opportunity and please do add my web site, www.playinhooky-charter.com to your links section. I would also like to join in on your organization as a founding member if that would be alright. It was a real pleasure fishing with Carter and his group. They are some of the best fishermen & women that I've had on board this season and they kept me busy netting fish & laughing all day. I just had a ball with them. Thanks again, Capt. Jerry Taylor www.playinhooky-charter.com

Storm??? What storm??? Heaby rain and not-so-high winds.
Loved the rains! It's been so dry here for so long, it's a blessing. The eye turned north and missed us, but it wasn't anything to get excited about.
Fishing's not going to be too bad since the waters weren't churned too bad, but I won't try it again until next weekend maybe.

I've been catfishing the last two days and here are the results.
day #1
23 lbs of catfish caught, nothing under 1 lb was kept or weighed
7 lb was the biggest one fish weight and was the only fish caught with Gulp Catfish Links.
Chicken livers caught the most fish and the most total pounds
Berkley Powerbait for catfish, blood, came in second
Strike King Catfish Dynabites(links) came in last but caught more fish then Gulp but not more pounds.
Day #2
29 lbs of catfish caught, again nothing under 1 lb was kept or weighed
Chicken livers ruled the day with most numbers and weight of fish caught to include a 10 lb channel cat
Berkley Powerbait came in second again but ALL of the commercially prepared bait had very slow bites and results
Strike King came in third and Gulp comes in last with nothing kept but several released
Conclusions
Chicken livers still rule as the king of catfish bait.
Commercial baits work but are not as effective but would seem to be better suited for trot line or jug fishing as they stayed on the hook better. Gulp really sucks. Many fish would hit it and spit it back out or not hold on to it and where lost because of a poor hook set.
I lost several fish caught on chicken livers because they broke the 8 lb test line.
Day fishing was way more productive then night fishing. One hour after dark until about 9 am no fish were caught. The most productive hour was between 1-2 pm. Bites really slowed after 2 pm until about 5 pm then it became good again until after dark when it slowed then stopped all together.
The two biggest fish, the 7 and 10 pounders, where caught at about 8 pm.

My all time fave too. I set it out on a rock and let it cook a bit before putting it on the hook. Generally use old stockings, well actually I buy cheap ones on sale and keep them in the tackle box, and wrap it in them. So if you guys see in my tackle box...
