Takes practice don't it? Carving a pumpkin that is! ;D I went to the pumkin carving game. Itried, nothing. I tried again, nothing. I tried again, and then I allmost s*** myself and fell of the chair. Reminded me of a German coffee advertising my wife showed to her sister. A car drives slowly trough a beautifull countyside. Nice dreamy music in the background, typical idillic. Then out of nowhere pops this hideous face to the front of the screen and screams a blood curdling cry. The poor dear almost fainted from the shock and has never been the same since.

Maybe I shouldn't go to this one....Hmmmmm. For my 2 cents worth on the knife edge I'm a firm believer in "to eac his own". Each individual will develope his personal angle and style of a knife edge as time goes by. All one can do is give them the basics and let them adjust to their own tastes. Like Othmar I have several different type of edges on different knives. It depends on the purpose of the knife. I fully agree with you. The basics of everything must be learned but then each one should develop a system that works for him. As I often said there is more than one way to skin a cat and just because someone does something different does not mean it is wrong, what counts is the end result and if that is pleasing then it is good.

Thanks to you, Othmar, I will be able to bone out my Wyoming buck more easily this year!! On Oct. 21st the Arkansas Game and Fish passed a law stating that no game can enter our state from a state that has CWD!! This is one hell of a time to let us know a law change for fall hunting and for us that go out of state and spend big dollars to do so!! One exception is to bone out your game and have no sketal or skull with flesh on in your pocession. Wonder how or if this will effect non-resident sales next year?? Thanks again for all your expertise,Othmar........Bill Gould

Thanks again for all your expertise,Othmar........Bill Gould Congratulations to your buck. It looks like that I do not get to hunt this year . To much work in the meat plant, the little time I have I work hard on the soon to be released new website "Othmar Vohringer Outdoors" and preparations for up comming hunting seminars and hunting shows. Thats what you get if you work two jobs at the same time. I fear it will get worse with new laws pertaining to CWD which is related to BSE in beef. The illness starts in the brain and then from there goes to the rest of the body but is heavily concentrated in the skull, brain and the spinal column. This is the reson why deer have to be boneless before they can be transported over a state line. I think in the very near future we will see laws that stipulate that a deer has to be taken to a taxidermist in the area where it has been killed and that venison needs to be checked by a health inspector before the meat can be taken home. The only good news is, which I heard just today, that CWD is declining. It still spreads around America and Canada but there are fewer cases reported in the affected areas. CWD is a typical show case what can happen if people carelessly interfere with nature. CWD originated on deer farms and it is thought in areas where deer are feed over winter or heavliy baited. Like BSE the problem seems to be in the food which has been enriched with animal waist products. It beats me how anyone could come to the conclusion to feed a herbivore meat or exextracts of meat.

Othmar that's what happens when we "outgrow" our expertise and let folk who know "nothing", usually accountants or lawyers, make our decisions for us. You can bet your sweet ass that it all started with somebody saying; "Hey feeding them the waste won't cost anything and in fact will save our disposal costs!"

You can bet your sweet ass that it all started with somebody saying; "Hey feeding them the waste won't cost anything and in fact will save our disposal costs!" You are right on Paw. A few years ago when I still made my home in Richmond, Illinois I had a lot to do with the USDA. One of the older guys there made me aware one day that he soon will retire and will be replaced by a bureaucrat who has no clue about livestock, or any other animal for that matter. He, my friend a veterinarian, told me that at one time the USDA was run by veterinarians, animal scientist, farmers, wildlife biologogists and so on. However times have changed and now it is all, like you said, lawers and such assorted riff raff, all they know it the law. A similar thing happend in Illionis when I lived there. The Minister for Renewable Resources did not know what a "wetland" is. She visited a wetland with her high heels and designer dress and was "disgusted" how "muddy" and "wet" the place was and promissed to do something about it. I am told it took quit some convincing to assure her that this is the way a wetland has to be. Sad really that our lives is run by people whose only qualification for office is that they know somebody who knows somebody in power or who are owned a favour by some "high and mighty". I am always reminded what my mother used to say. In the government is no room for knowledge and morals in fact they are a hinderance. However you have to behave like you have morals and knwoledge to get the votes. After that you do as the sponsores tell you what to do and not the voters.

Sounds like you and the boys were in high cotton out there Bill. Now how about some pictures? And we're all sitting on the edge of our seats for the stories behind them too...

An old saying in Switzerland says something along these lines, loosly translated. "A glass of (Schnaps) whisky a day keeps the doctor away" ;D
Maybe I should start to chage people for my tips ;D ;D
Glad everything went well for you and as has already been said, please share some pictures with us. That is the only way I can hunt this year, reading stories and looking at pictures. But I am not sorry about it because it is all for the better next year.
