I signed up for 2 years which is paid for if I use the gym or not so that kinda gives a little motivation to not waste the money I spent and use the gym. Today I did a whole 10 minutes on the step machine for a whole 1/2 a mile then 2 walking laps around the track. Not much but it's a start. Heart rate was 76 at start and I quit when it hit 170. Tomorrow I get a follow up with the trainer on the Nautilus machines at 3pm. It took about 30 minutes to complete the circuit of machines at 12 reps per machine the first time yesterday. The trainer says he expects a 5lb increase in the settings each session which is every other day.The step machine is for the day between those sessions.

I won't make fun of you any more Mars. I know how you feel. I played in an old-timers basketball game tonight and I am already sore, and it ain't been over for 1/2 hr. yet. I had 7 points in about 20 minutes.

Have all the fun you can. I laugh at myself more then anybody else does. FYI though, I'm starting out pressing 200lbs and most of the machines are on 100+ lbs. Now at 5lb increments every other day, guess where I should be in 6 months. I expect to be sore. I've gotten fat and lazy and it's time to change. The gym is fulfilling a promise I made to my oldest daughter on my birthday. 7 points is better then I've ever done in basketball. Did you win?

200 lbs??? WOW! There is no way on this earth that I could ever lift that much. They would have to have a crane to get the weight off me. It's great that you are fulfilling your promise. I have gotten soft and lazy too. Sitting in a truck all day ins't conductive to staying in shape. Used to, I could run 2 miles with no problem, now it hurts to run 1/4 mile. We won, but guess who is sore this morning. And it will be worse tomorrow! It even hurts to type

Never laugh at somebody who is out there doing it! Mars build and maintain as much mass as possible. They say that in your sixties you lose as much as 60 percent of your body strength and it is near impossible to build muscle at that age. Just a matter of what you have left slowly deteriorating. I mean; well, just look at Korot!

Unfortunately I've already lost that 60%. In the Army I was pressing 400+ lbs and was being recruited for the Army wieght lifting team that I kept refusing. Freaked out a S4 NCO once, he wanted to move a 1000lb bailey bridge girder but couldn't get his forklift started so I picked up one end of the girder and moved it for him.

LOL! I understand. I had this kid up at Rickenbacker was 2nd string center jfor the Bengals; do not remember his name, just "Tiny!" Black kid with no teeth and hated to wear shoes. He was the first ever in the USAF "Fat Boy" program to get a waiver because of his "specific gravity." I loved that kid; funnier than all get out. Anyway the BCE moved the Real Estate function "up the road" a quarter mile and they had this 600 pound safe. Me and Tiny, mostly Tiny, carried it up the sidewalk.

Good luck! ;D
I used to love going to the gym before work. I never did much on weight training, but absolutely loved the pool! I'd swim for an hour four times a week before going to work.
I felt better, moved better, and was enjoying myself. I stopped when I moved up here from Tampa. Now, if I want to do laps it'll have to be back and forth across the Withlacoochee River and them gators is way too plentiful for me to try that!
Definitely stick with it; you're gonna need to be in shape when Obama's boys come to collect your guns, lol!

Mars, not to put a damper on your efforts to get in shape, but I read your posts and answers from the gittgo, and I have some concerns with how you've begun your program.... Sorry, I too should have congratulated you as the other guys have, but I got too exited...... With the program your using, are you power training or have you started using an above pace program under the advice of your trainer? If so, were you checked out by a doctor before you started, and how high was your BP after the workout was concluded? Should your heart rate be at 170.....How long has it been since doing that grunt work when you were in the service and in good shape??? If its okay, and I jumped the gun, I'll apologize in advance and say congrats and good luck!!!!.. By the way, when I was playing football in high school, I was 5ft 8", 220lbs and played inside LB, and RT Guard in an old single wing running offense....I ran the 100 in 10.3, the 40 in 4.4, 220 in 23 secs, and the half in 2.16....I even got to semi -pro, But in the early 60's size , and speed started taking over and I found I was actually too small for the positions I played......I could never do that regimine today, since I'm an old fuddy duddy and a crocthity OLKOOT, but even if I tried, it would have to be a beginner type program and then after a time ,get into the heavy stuff..............Then fall flat on my face dead!!

Steve; I not only was checked over by my doctor, actually the same day I joined the gym, but joined this gym under his advice and consent. The place is called, Tri Cities Lifestyle Center and they have a website if you want to check it out.Everything I'm doing is monitored and tracked. I'm doing a Nautilus machine circuit, 14 machines, one day and cardio, pedal machine, the next. I've done enough workouts to know the difference from being sore from a workout from being hurt from it. I also sacrifice some exercises for others. Example, I leg press 200lbs which is easy for me but the next machine is leg curls which are difficult at 95lbs. So instead of setting the first machine to 400lbs to make it as difficult I leave it at 200lb to give me a little extra leeway on the next machine without getting hurt but still get something from the first machine. Next session everything increases by 5lbs. The cardio is just the one machine at this time so no trainer is needed. Everything is monitored by the machine so all I have to do is look at the displays. This is the harder of the 2 sessions. They "showed" me the group exercise room.Aerobics/Step. We both agreed that killing me was not on the agenda of what I needed. No need to apologise and I appreciate your concerns. ;D ;D ;D

LOL!! I expected it to be Carter with the offer of an introduction. Steve I think I saw her this afternoon in our local Chinese All You Can Eatery. She was dusting venitian blinds and had one foot on the center of the table and the other on the back of the chair! She could have been a successful farmer with a spread like that!
