When I go camping it usually depends on how long I plan to be out what I stay in. If it is for a night or two I might just sleep in the back of my s-p-a-c-i-o-u-s GMC Savana. If I'm hiking a hammock works fine. Longer stays I use a tent like this past summer we stayed in one for 18 days.

If it's just me, all I usually need is a chair and a campfire. If wifey is along, we go in the new "vacation wagon" we got last winter. It's a Jayco Eagle 26 ft 5th wheel. That baby is sweet as fresh huckleberry! Unfortunately, my truck only makes nine mpg towing it.

Blood, you talkin' about a chair and a campfire reminds me of a sight I saw while camping at a state park in the 70's. We had people from all over in for the Governor's Cup Fiddlin' Contest. There was a family from Alabama camped next to us, good people by the way. They were here to compete. They had a driver that didn't care to do much of anything when he wasn't working. He did like one thing and he appeared very good at it. He liked to drink RC Cola mixed with his favorite liquor and sit in a lawn chair near the campfire. We were eating supper and he was getting snookered. Well before we finished our meal his drink finished him. I looked up and saw him lying on the ground next to his lawn chair which fell over with him ;D I've always wondered if those folks got home alive

I just take my 4x4 Dodge back it up in a hole next to a creek and sleep in the back of the trk with a camper shell over it.Or it depends on who all is with me and sometimes I pitch an nice tent out side next to the creek. And enjoy a weekend of piece and quiet in the hills of Virgina next to the Blue ridge Parkway.

Man you boys got some options there! I really do like the tent; but, come tear down time..... That seems to be the one chore I really hate. Unpacking the car is also a pain. I just bought a POS twenty year old nineteen foot Travel Trailer in need of major repairs. Did it mostly to help out a cousin who needed some money. Now I got to move it and go to work on it. Thinking about trying to turn it into a Civil War era Garrison Cook Shack typical of the day. |Any ideas?

I used to use the bus alot, but it appears as though it has a new home. The guy I got it with had it in his name and gave it away or sold it. That's ok, when I get things settled down again, I may just build me another one. In the mean time, a hammock or just the ground blind or a tent. As far as I go lately though, I just ease on home and use the king size posturepedic....

I've spent many a night on the ground under my tailgate to keep the dew off. Many more still, lying on the ground under an old tarp stretched between a few trees.
I've definitely done the tent camps, camper trailers, motels, back porches, even slept sitting up in front seat of the truck. Whatever it takes for a few winks to keep me fresh for the hunt!

Where did you get the picture? Anybody know where there might be a historical garrison cook shack set up?

I still have the nylon mansion. Don't care much for tent sleeping though. Have slept in vehicles, under bridges, in culverts, in chairs, on the ground, on planks strung across barn rafters, on a cot....But, my most comfortable & satisfying sleep has come from bedding down in either of these locations..... ;D

Well, now that the family goes camping I had to purchase a tent. A Cabellas Trekker. Of course since the wife was now going I had to buy a portable commode chair so she didn't have to squat next to a tree. Then the obligatory camping stove, lanterns, folding chairs and table. I yearn for the days when it was just me and my green quilt.

Get yourself a little wood burning heater cause that tent will handle three seasons easily and four with a good solid rain fly. A stove that will put out fifteen thousand BTU should work OK for you with a good sleeping bag. Keep the frost off your nippies anyway. I'm looking forward to doing a little star gazin with you partner!
