That explains the scent in the air here Phil. Hey, guess where my girlfriend is taking me this December?.......
Germany! We leave on the 28th and get back home on 9 JAN 08. I am really looking forward to this trip. I have never been to Europe before. She has a vehicle (mini-van) rented and all the hotel reservations already made. New Year's Eve we will be spending at some 5-star hotel she told me and that night there is a seven course dinner, a band, dancing and fireworks. Then the next morning we will have a buffet breakfast there. Her Mom asked her what kind of cake I liked because she is going to make me one. I told her I like "cake". So she is supposed to be making some kind of apple cake and a cheesecake. I am told that their cakes are a little different from what we are used to eating here. I don't care because I like cake. We will be doing a bit of sightseeing and are supposed to go to Strasbourg, France and Austria too. I have been trying to learn a few German words and I have been teaching her some Redneck ;D

I had the good fortune of being in Berlin when the wall came down. Got a pic shaking hands with a commie guard. Got several chunks of the wall and a commie/Ruskie garrison cap. Carter I can not remember, do you smoke? If so make sure to pack a couple of cartons. Variety is marginal and very expensive. Hotel bills will knock your socks off. When you leave pack two bags. One for your needs and one old one "throw away" with a very few things. When you get to Germany find yourself an expandable duffle which are pretty cheap the idea being to enable you to pack things to bring back home and stay with the two bag maximum.

Santa, I'm probably deserving of a lump of coal this year. Well, I heard there was a train wreck over around Athens. Go ahead and send me a whole truck load of that spilled coal, and I'm sure I can find a way to use it.

But you ain't got no coal stove! That stuff sure is nice though. We had a coal stove almost the whole time I was upgrowing! I used to get up and fire up the stove and get the washin'/shavin water hot then put on the water for coffee (instant you know,) Put a couple big lumps in the stove, set the damper down by half then fill up the bucket and take out the ashes. Get that done then get ready for school.

I heard that Santa has plumb run out of cyanide. But I still have that 25# bag of saltpeter and maybe four or five bottles of alum if you need it. Now Santa.......before you go putting me on the naughty list for that remark, just remember that I am trying to be thoughtful and helping.

While I'm at it. Santa, I'd like a real hard freeze with no ice or snow that lasts until at least when the power gets hooked up so all this mud freezes up and I can keep the floors and clothes halfway clean, but still be able to make it into town for kerosene, laundry and water.

No Phil, I don't smoke. As for bags, I am bringing one large one and a small one. My girlfriend already has the hotels and things paid for. All I will need is money for souveneirs and gas.

No sir, you will also need space for souvenirs. That's the point of taking the "throw away" bag and picking up a new collapsible one! ;D (Trust me on this!) Oh, remember to take along a bit of a notebook to record any and all "take home" purchases to include the date, price and a brief description of the item. Saves a lot of hassle filling out customs declarations. Take credit card and travel checks and limit the amount of cash to less than a grand and don't flash it around and change most of it to Marks or Euros when you arrive. Get your passport ordered now. They are backlogged since the rush to beat the price increase.

I'd rethink that one. I've found that you can get better deals using U.S. currency over native currency though doing so may be illegal in some countries. Just make sure you know the exchange rates.

I'd rethink that one. I've found that you can get better deals using U.S. currency over native currency though doing so may be illegal in some countries. Just make sure you know the exchange rates. US Dollars are at an alltime low while Euros are at a high. The result is that locals will trade less per dollar than the financial institutions normally. As a matter of fact lots of Europeans are taking advantge of the weakened dollar to visit here finding that they can save sufficient money buying durable goods and clothing to offset the price of airfare and housing! Actually Carter the two of you would save money by bringing her family over here and sending them on a shopping spree while letting them have a visitation vacation.
