Hey Phil;;;
Are you planing on haveing a skeet shoot, or something similar....I had planned on being there last year and bringing a thrower or two...Frank wanted to do this but things came up for me and I was unable to attend...
But this year I will beat myself with a wet noodle and make myself go.... Or maybe a Turkey shoot..

There is a shooting range where we can have a turkey shoot. I'll check with the park and see if skeet is OK.

Thanks Howard! I can use all the help I can get. How big is your family? I have a rather extensive, shall we say, gear closet! Maybe I can help out with a few things.

How's the planning progressing? I am hoping to get to the GT this year. Steve K and I have to do some planning on the IHLA's GT but that will likely be a June event. Paws, e-mail me with final details for the OCC GT since I just can't seem to make it to this Board as often as I like. Way too much going on for me lately.

Last count, there were about 35 people from the NAHC boards saying they were going to attend this years GT!
I heard there was some problems with the dam at the lake. I hope it will not cause problems with the GT!

My family and I are still trying to figure out what we're doing. Where is the registration and pricing for this event?
Thanks, Heather H.

Depends on where you would like to stay. If at the Lodge or a private site you can make reservations now through the DNR web site. If you wish to tent it or site a camper (primitive) with the main group at the group camp just let me know how many tents and bodies there will be. I can not make reservations for the group until Friday at the earliest. travel.yahoo.com/p-hotel-357455-salt_fork_lodge_resort-i;_ylc=X3oDMTFoZThzbHBqBF9TAzk2ODIzNzAzBGsDc2FsdCBmb3JrIGxvZGdlBHNlYwNzZW10ZwRzbGsDc2VtdGc-This will get you started. Fees for the group camp are $4.00 per head per night and $1.00 for kids under 12. The group camp has no water, no electricity. There are out door Johns. There is a shower a couple miles out and the main areas are within a 10 minute drive. The lodge is first class. Restaurant is full service but mediocre lto middling in quality. Price is excessive. Great golf course. Super lake and reservoir for boating, fishing or swimming. There are also pools, tennis courts, horse rentals with a bridal path, public hunting and fishing, basketball courts.

Thanks!
We're still deciding what to do. That's not a bad price at all, we do like having water while camping... hrm. We don't care as much about electricity though and we are tent campers. The event this coincides with is actually War Practice at Coopers Lake in Slippery Rock, PA. Fortunately, I don't do anything war like, I just cook so both outings are equally appealing to me. Naturally, if we go to Salt Fork, not only do I have the option of using my beloved dutch ovens, I don't have to wear Renaissance era dresses.

Yes, that was the link I was looking for and hit the wrong line! Sorry!! The group site requires a minimum of 40 and a maximum of 100. If I can get a good showing out of Mosby's Raiders we should be at approximately 50 right now. Anyway that's what I'm going to give the camp as an estimate tomorrow. This gathering is going to be very informal and more or less an introduction of everyone. We will talk about OCC and the direction I have planned for it. We will fish. We will swim. We will eat! We will have a pot luck exchange Saturday evening and a community breakfast Sunday morning which I will provide; but, I will need a team of cooks. We will have a group discussion Friday evening after set up and dinner lis served. (Fend for yourselves;however, I will have something for stragglers, proscrastinators, slow pokes, and late arrivals! (Rule one at my house is : "Nobody goes to bed hungry!!) Saturday we will probably have a bit of the Confederate demonstrating drill, a firing squad, and possibly some mortar demonstrations. The CW Army camp will be set up as a period display so remember the reenactors aren't being "stand offish" they are just in a different time zone!! Feel free to question thgem about anything. They enjoy sharing their knowledge. With a little luck their attendance will be a public event and we may get some :"lookie loos" which is always fun. I plan to camp with the Rebs in period so remember anything I cook will be done "period correct!" ;D

Well, it sounds wonderful! I also saw mention of a possible turkey shoot.
I volunteer to help cook!
Just curious folks, am I the only one with a little one?

OK all we are on for the 20 through the 23rd of May at Salt Fork Group Camp. We will have full access to the firing range from Dawn to Dusk to include demonstration of the mortars, cannon, and primitive black powder weapons. If we wish to have a turkey shoot just let me know. We can run it in Black powder, shotgun, and rifle classes if desired. We mar arrive anytime Friday, spending Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Evenings and departing Monday. Of course anyone who wishes to leave earlier is free to do so. I plan to be in camp Friday morning and begin setup early. I will be setting up with Mosby's raiders and using primitive gear so should anyone need to borrow my modern gear just let me know. (Did you hear me Howard Carter.) I need a head count so if you plan to attend just let me know how may and when you think you will arrive. I will provide breakfast for the campsite Sunday morning and wish to have a potluck dinner on Saturday evening. Alcohol is permitted in the camp area only and if you become obnoxious expect to be asked to leave. Remember this is a family gathering that will include adults and children; however, child like behaviour is restricted to personnel less than 4 feet tall! ;D Come have some fun!! ;D www.ohiodnr.com/parks/parks/saltfork.htm
