Toby, I don't think running around barefoot in the calf pen gave you ringworm. You was more likely riding those calves bareback in shorts. But that still leaves the question as to how my brother ended up with the entire top of his noggin covered in ringworm one summer.
One thing to keep in mind when treating or preventing fungal and bacterial infection is that they both need the right combination of temperature, food, pH, and moisture. Eliminate (or correct) any one of them and you're on your way to get rid of it.

Exactly... I figure we must be living proof that He has a sense of humor! Absolutely.!! Hey you might check with your insurance company on that window. I must have had a half dozen done in the vehicles and everytime they called it vandalism and never charged the deductible.. I got State Farm.

If a human passenger gets pissed off and punches out your window, it's vandalism. But if a 50-pound Jersey calf kicks it out, it's failure to secure contents of insured vehicle. Go figure!

Well, I fooled around long enough with "alternative" and "vet box" treatments for a "simple" boil that's been coming and going for about three months. Was about the size of a marble, but was draining and didn't seem to cause much of an issue. Night before last, it went crazy and was the size of a baseball. Couldn't walk, sit or move. Started Cipro last night. Tried drawing it to a head (with the vacuum cleaner hose) so I could try lancing it myself. No luck. By this afternoon, I was running a 104 fever, had a headache, was getting chest pains, and just kinda felt like crap all over. Finally cried UNCLE and drove myself to the clinic. They didn't have to lance it, as it opened as soon as I tried to lay back on the table. Think about the raunchiest smelling Limburger cheese you've ever smelled. Very similar odor, but don't hold a candle to the pint of raunchy MRSA mess that drained. Took about 10 feet of wound packing tape to do the job. Somehow I gotta get gas to go back every two days starting Sunday for at least all of next week to get it re-packed. White count came back so sky high that with the temperature, BP, and high respiration and pulse I'd have either been hospitalized or dead come morning! Was only a few points away on all scales to officially have sepsis. Three doctors and two nurses chewed my ass out royal for using the vet box and thoroughly cleaned my clock for waiting so long. I caved and stopped by Kroger for the Bactrin, and yes I'm taking it. She said as soon as the cultures and sensitivity test results get back, she may change that. Was ordered that if I have ANY symptoms to IMMEDIATELY get to the ER (even if I think it's just a hot flash).

Great stuff! We used to keep a bottle of the linamint when I was a kid. We used a poultice made from everything from the fat part of jowel bacon wrapped in gauze to the membrane peeled from the inside of an eggshell laid directly on the problem to draw out infections from boils, carbunkels, infected wounds/cuts etc. They do work but one must be careful to remove any foreign object in the wound as well then assure the area is disinfected after it is cleaned. Faith your best approach would have been alternating hot and cold wdet compresses to open that thing then to wash it out and apply a generous amount of triple antibiotic ointment a couple tims a day for two or three days. Just a big pimple! See you are still a teenager. Either of you guys remember a "________" Drawing Salve? Coal black as I recall and smelled a bit like lamp oil.

Actually tried some of those suggestions. Had just let it go too long and it went into full blown MRSA. Doc started packing it and determined it's about 3 inches deep and just about that big around. All that packing stuff is keeping it draining real good. Just a mess. One of the gals at church is a nurse. I called her this morning to ask for a ride to church and urgent care tomorrow. She told me that under no circumstances does she want to see me in church tomorrow. She sent her hubby over with a can of gas so I can get to the clinic. Don't play around with it; once its in your blood you got real troubles! Praying you can rest some; I know you mentioned on FB the lidocaine had worn off... I'll fess up....According to the blood workup and what the docs said, it IS in the blood. Two of the three wanted to admit me last night. I told then that was a 'no can do' since I have critters to that have to be fed and nobody but me to do it. Mike's somewhere around Memphis, there's no neighbors who will or can feed them, and the kids are all gone (don't want Rob & Jess around this with a new baby). Also have Ruthie that's down sick (suspect kennel cough, but that's beside the point). I still feeling mighty puny this morning (other than when I try moving..then OUUUUCCHHH!!!!. Managed to putt my way out to the shed this morning. Threw enough feed and hay into the calves and hens to get them by for a few days.

Thanks. I will. I'm covered for right now. Push comes to shove, I'll load the other two calves Wednesday and send them to the sale barn. Haven't been to much past horizontal all day long... #1 because it hurts to much to move, #2 because my head's still spinning and if I get moving, I fall over and, #3 because it's draining so much that it's best to stay on the chucks. BUT I think I'm still breathing!! Fever is coming down and chest doesn't hurt as bad as it did last night. Gotta stiff neck, but I think that's probably from the antibiotic. At least it's listed as one of the side-effects.
