I ditched noodles in most of my soups and have been going with cabbage instead. It reduces my carb and calorie intake and increases my fiber and vitamin C intake. Cabbage also acts as a diuretic. So it helps keep the system flushing.
Same goes with rice in soup or jambalaya. I've replaced it with barley. More fiber, potassium and B-6 that way. Sure, barley has way more calories per cup than rice. BUT, you only need a fraction as much barley to feel like you've actually eaten something. For me, I prefer barley over rice. Still, I tend to eat a smaller portion of soup with barley than I would if it had rice just because it's more satisfying.

A quart of White House ice cream and half gallon of iced tea with a half gallon of ice. Not pigging out. Just trying to stay cool until the AC is fixed.
Mike's on a diet. Momma says so!!! He kept telling me how much weight he was losing. According to the "bounce to the ounce meter", I knew that wasn't so. I just love Holzer's new online medical records. Especially when I'm the one who set up his account and can look over everything. LOSING weight?? OH, THAT'S RICH!!!!! How's about GAINING 60 lbs in the past 5 years and his blood pressure is the highest it's ever been!!! Cholesterol is also getting up there. Can't tell you what his sugar is because they've never even tested it.
Me?? I've stayed within a 10-lb range for the past 15 years and everything is still copasetic other than chronic allergies (yeah, and smoking like a freight train) compromising some lung function.

After babying the air conditioning all day long, I finally got it down to 74 in here. Hour of just the blower fan. Hour with the A/C running.....two box fans on high all day.....Whipped up a cherry and an applesauce "flop" pie with rolled 9-grain crusts and a handful each of oat and wheat bran, and a mini-crock pot of beanie-weenie for supper. Oh yeah, and my digital bathroom scales are only a half-pound off from the clinic's. I'm down 18 pounds since my last visit on June 3rd.

6 eggs scrambled... Washed 'em down with water.
Can't afford to eat more, budget took a hard and unexpected hit and I have to save every penny for travel expenses on the road later this month.
Gonna stop by the SweetBay grocer and buy up a sh*tload of Ramen Noodles....

I feel your pain, brother! I most definitely feel your pain!!! This whole damned year has been nothing but one unexpected big expense thing after another. Counting my blessings that the hens are laying good, the first calf is in the freezer, and the other one just has a few months left on the chow line. MAYBE I can get 2nd half property taxes paid before 1st half of next year comes due or get the heat pump fixed before anybody gets sick, injured, dies, or something else breaks down. Coming home from taking Mike to catch his ride, I about pulled off the road and cried after I started smelling something 'hot'. Looked at the gauges and they were ok. Shut it down and waited a little bit. Sure was glad when it dissipated because I was just about ready to grab the crowbar and start beating the hell out everything until I hit the right part. Apparently, it was the ambulance I was tailgaiting, not me. Whew!! Don't need that kind of 'excitement' right now.

Made it to the store, bought up a case of vegetable soup, a dozen bags of chili and stew mix (just add meat and water), 6 12 packs of Ramen Noodles, bag of flour, bag of sugar, gallon of vegetable oil, three pounds of coffee, and killed a deer with my bow for the meat.
Total for a months worth of groceries... $72.00
Tonight I had dollar McChicken sammiches and a dollar iced tea from McDonald's on the way back from the store.

We had a wiener roast after cleaning up the curch grounds tonight. I had two smokies w/chili sauce & onions, a bowl of bean soup, a piece of cornbread, some chips, a dab of apple crisp, a watermelon wedge, and coffee. I think all 23 of us had fun. Word is we're going to repeat (without the work detail) next month.

Any McDonald's bag that's brought home from work and sat in the fridge for more than 22 hours automatically becomes my supper. A McChicken and a McDouble nuked for 1 min. Thank you Martin.
