Have been taking a look at some of y'alls deer cam shots! Wish I had one of them gizmos. This season looks to be a good one in our woods. Was out marking dead/dying trees to cut later in the winter. Came across one huge bedding area aprox. 15 yards from the back door. Fresh rubs and scrapes all over that area. Have set up corn and a sweet horse lick block within sight of the sliding patio door. Had a few visitors last night, as was evident by fresh turds and no corn. Also came across TWO monster bucks crossing the road about a mile or so away. Drop tines upon drop tines - cork screw and spirals - I quit counting, err lost track, on the first buck at 25 points. Momma's never been one for trophey hunting. BUT!!! Either one of them would look mighty fine above the fireplace. Especially if it's one I dropped.

Attagirl Faith! Venison barbecue at your house this season! I'm so ready for the season to open it's not even funny. I'm going stir crazy; I need the woods to calm me! Lots of deer around again this year, so it ought to be a good one to fill the freezers. Sure ain't no extra money these days around the end of the month, so a freezer full of wild game goes along way in this house!

We got 3 ladder stands put up this afternoon. One for me and another 35 yards away for my daughter and a double stand 100 yards from her for her friend and her father. Bear scat everywhere but I'm the only one hunting solely for bear. The border property is all posted and the owner lives in Florida so there will not be anybody in there. I have the camera out just for fun and to see what is moving during the week.
FYI, the private road is called black bear lane.

Took my daughter to the Archery store/shop to get her bow tuned and adjusted if needed before the season and since her friend mentioned she was having problems with hers I told her to come along and I'd have it fixed for her. Daughters bow went just fine but the other girls bow couldn't be fixed let alone tuned. It was seriously warped. Her look of disappointment told me what to do and she has a new bow. I bought her the bow and a dozen carbon arrows. She is to shoot it everyday this week then she and it go back for a refit this Friday.

She brought the bow to my house last night with the arrow rest broken. Her fathers story was that it broke when she shot it. I took it back to get it fixed and it cost me $80. to replace the rest, replace the torn strap on the grip and retune the bow. I'm taking it back tonight and getting the real story on how the bow got dropped or hit.

Sorry morning! Winds gusting to 40mph. After getting wacked on the head twice by branches I left about 8:45am. At 9:00am it started raining and it hasn't stopped yet.

How about a combo deal. We've had the wind and rain ever since last night. Flood warnings are up. And I woke up with a case of the snots and a sore throat that I can't get rid of.

She didn't win but she has pulled into the lead.
I got a call after dark and a friends wife got the first deer......... with her car and not 60 yards from my house. Baby deer though but veal is always welcome.
I got the story on the bow. She left it on her bedroom floor before school and when she came home it was on her bed busted and nobody around. Nobody is admitting anything but the daughters friend learned from it and put a hook on the wall for the bow.

Venison a la Ford! Nice and tender!
I bet that young lady will learn to keep her "toys" picked up from now on. She might wanna ask her folks for a nice hard sided bow case for Christmas.

We went out this afternoon. About 15 minutes after I got situated the bear showed up. He got within 30 yards and I think he spotted my daughter in her stand. He jumps on a tree trunk and stares her direction but as my luck, he was on the opposite side of the tree and all I could see was his head. He jumped down and walked away without ever offering a shot.

Good call passing on that head shot. I can imagine how tempting it would be and with a rifle, I'd a dropped his fuzzy ass, but I lost two of the four animals I ever head shot with a bow.
At least you got to lay eyes on him. How big was he?

I believe he was the bear in the photos I posted in "Der cam photos" thread. Around 200 lbs so not the biggest bear in the woods but he will do.

I got out yesterday for a four hour hunt in the evening. The wind as perfect, the moon's in the right phase, and everything was right for beaucoup deer movement, but someone forgot to tell the deer that they were supposed to show up. I sat in some pretty woods and saw nuttin'! Not even the squirrels and birds were moving, the wind died down, the woods were still and silent and I drove hime empty handed. No big deal...only the first outing of the season. Plenty of time to score.

Great minds must think alike because we went out yesterday evening about 4 pm and we had the same results. Sumacs dropped their leaves a few weeks ago but the other trees are starting to change.
