Aw Peg, I wish I could do more than just tell you how sorry I am. You'll have to depend on God and the Holy Spirit to fill that hole for a while. They do a pretty good job but it'll hurt for a while. When you feel it the worst just tell God how much you apreciate Him and thank Him for the time He was able to share Bruce with you. You'll feel better and maybe even crack a smile. After a while you'll remember some of the quirks he had, the dumb stuff he'd do, and you'll be able to laugh. Then you will know that all is right with the world and Heaven. If you plan to have an affair, wake, memmorial, whtever when you broadcast his ashes I would like to attend if it would be OK. Need anything, shout.

Bruce's memorial service will be Saturday, June 4 at 1:00 p.m. at our home. Bruce will go out as he wished with full military uniform. I actually pick up his remains on Friday, so he will be here.
No alcohol please, I have enough on my plate without having a bunch of people drinking and driving.
Anyone who would like to come and see Bruce off with honors is welcome to come.
Peg

I will not be attending. I'm afraid that with my Aunt Margie on her death bed and me not being able to visit earlier due to my own illness I had best visit with her instead. With luck I will be able to get out of the house for a bit this week-end. You have hy best wishes and I hope the services are well represented for Bruce. I will be in touch soon.

Peg, Patrick Gorman of Gettysburg and Gods and Generals has expressed his condolences on his facebook link. You can find his post on my Profile I think. He has been signed to do the part of General Charles Smith on the upcoming TV mini-series, To Appomatox. The producers have assurred me that they will be using the authentic Rebel Yell in that program. I think Bruce would have approved!

Well Bon Voyage Bruce! I know he is on his way cause we just had thunder boomers and a very brief rain. May God rest your soul, keep your meadows green, skys blue, campfires smoke free and all your battles a victory. You will be missed my friend.

The day was hot and sticky. Several soldiers showed up in uniform. Don Grant and boys were there. Bob was in charge of the gun. There was 10 rounds made with ashes.
The service was very nice. Then came time for the gun. Don was in charge of the first shot. The cannoneers came marching down to the gun. The first round was loaded and a confederate battlejack was laid across the gun from wheel to wheel. I fired the first shot (the biggest one), the flag was then folded and presented to me. Our daughters and son and others who loved Bruce took turns firing the gun. Jeremy Grant ended the cannonading with prayer.
During the time that the gun was going off, dark clouds started rolling in and thunder began. Bob said Bruce was answering fire. Immediately, after the firing was done, the cannon was placed back in the building, the dark clouds left and it just got hotter than ever.
The heavens didn't open up with their tears until about 11:30 here, then there was a diluge. I think the heavens were just trying to hide my tears. There were over 60 people here to see Bruce off the way he wanted. It was very nice and all of them stated that they had never been to a memorial service such as his.
Thanks for all your thoughts, cards, and prayers. The days are hard on me but the nights are the hardest. Coming home from work is a chore. Things will get easier or I will just get used to it. I am not sure which one will happen first.
I do have a good network of friends and family to keep me going though. I just hope that everyone has the kind of friend, husband and lover that I had in Bruce. He made me laugh everyday for over 27 years.
God bless you all. You will hear from me again. I will not crawl in a hole yet.
Peg

Wow! ;D Terrific turn out. I would have expected nothing less. Don't be bashful about expressing your needs or just shout out for a chat to fill the empty hours. God bless you Peg and all your kin.
