After you stop by and see John and Phil, you might as well stop by and see me & our boy Rob on SR 93 south of Oak Hill on your way home. It'll set you up for a nice straight shot trip home going down US23 out of Ashland, KY. Give a jingle at 740-541-1604.

Last night there were at least 6 if not more bedding down in the back yard. They know it is a safe place to bed down. I figure they were all does. My dog that I had out there on a leash did not scare them..they did get up, but didn't take off. I can see when I mow where they had bedded down.
I have vension in the freezer. The guy that hunts here brings me a Wally's bag of packaged and frozen. He told me if I wanted him to get me a doe to let him know. He has the right amount of added fat in the burger..it is so good. I have roasts and steaks. He is waiting on his Buck!! He got a big boy last year..he has his cameras in the woods. He has them places around in the woods near the cornfield. They are fed well! ha! ;D ;D

Hey guys, It's been awhile. I have yet to score this season but had my opportunities. My son, Michael, took care of business though.

Meghan got the 4 pointer, a button buck and 2 does opening day in Indiana. Coyotes got the button buck overnight before we found it.
I got a 6 point opening day but couldn't find it and thought I missed. We found it Saturday(a week later) and coyotes had eaten all but the head. I took the head and checked it in anyway.I killed it so it should still be counted. Shot it with the Marlin 44 mag..
I also shot at a doe that ran to Meghan and she shot at it. I didn't find a drop of blood or hair and Meghan stated it was walking off normaly and that she missed as well. I couldn't believe I missed a 30 yard shot and looked the next morning. Nothing. We hunted Saturday morning and it bugged me I missed such an easy shot but looking I still could not find a sign of it.
I decided to drive the woods and in doing so found the 6 pointer that I shot the previous Saturday and 50 yards from him was the "doe" which had one button and a 2 1/2" antler still making it a "doe"(antlerless). The coyotes hadn't touched it and it was salvageble.
We ended our trip with 4 deer in the freezer and 6 kills on deer and we got two coyotes Saturday morning. I got the red/yellow female and Meghan got a mange covered male.
I was totaly confused and mad Saturday after I made a 60 yard head shot on a coyote and thought I missed a 30 yard shot on a deer. Finding the "doe" with a perfect lung shot atleast made me feel better about my shooting.
I still don't know why 3 deer had no blood trails and showed no signs of being hit. 1 with a 44 mag and the others with 20ga foster slugs. Though my "doe" had no exit wound.
Meghans 4 point has spotted legs and belly and I'm having the entire hide tanned for her.

We had just crossed the Ohio line on 33s. I believe it was Rockford or something like that. The bridge across the Ohio River on I-64 was closed and the 1 hour detour was why we changed routes through Ohio.
If you look you can see some of the spots on Meghans buck. The belly spots can be seen to the right of her shotgun barrel and you can see a few on the lower hind leg.

Toby;
The .44 were soft points but I don't remember the grains. The only thing I can figure is that all the deer in the area were in rut and hyped up. We couldn't go 10 yards without finding scrapes and rubs and there were many places it was obvious that mating had been going on. The place reeked of musk and urine.Meghan called it a rape zone. I've shot rutting deer before that seemingly ignored being shot until they fell over.
I did not skin the coyotes. The male was extremely mangy but by the time I got to were I could skin them the stomach on the female had turned green. Notice how distended their stomachs are from eating the deer. I shot the female as she was chasing a flock of turkeys. Talk about being greedy.
