A Button Buck and a 6 year old Doe, Let both set in Ice Water for five days, (to drow out the blood), Just finished working up the meat this evening, that new grinder head for that #10 Habart Mixer worked great. Surprising tho the doe was sweeter meat, than the young buck?

OK, the deer seem to be congregating at my neighbors pasture North of me, so I asked Bill if I could hunt his pasture. he was a little hesitant at first, then I told him I was just wanting to fill my doe tags. He had a friend after a buck, so he said OK, as long as we "hunted" without messing up the other guy. "If I hear a shot, I'll drive down so you guys don't have to do any draggin" I walked (yes, I actually walked) down to the river, and picked a nice spot to sit. I could see the other guy sitting about 200 yards off to my leif. In a few minutes the deer started coming out of the willows too feed on the alfalfa. There were a few does, I thought I should wait for the other guy to find a buck. Shortly a couple of nice bucks showed up, and started sparring a little. Soon there were a couple of more bucks watching, and sometimes pushing the sparing bucks around. A NICE buck shows up, and gets into a pushing match with the nice bucks. Big bucks, little bucks, I'm losing count, and there are about 50 does watching all this. The three bucks wrestle their way behind a stand of willows, out of my sight, and towards the other hunter. I'm sitting there thinking "Why hasn't he busted that NICE buck" A shot finally sounds, and the does start walking towards the river willows. Really, walking. A few finally run to the willow, the bucks follow them, then they all turn around, watching the hunter walk up to his buck. About then I hear Bill's pick-up door, he's on his way. I watch the does for a few minutes, and start walking over to help the guy with his deer. Nice little 4 point (western count) Bill pulls up, we throw the deer in the truck he says "YOu shoot a doe?" I says No, I wanted to make sure this guy got a nice deer. Bill says " you come shoot deer here any time, how may tags you got?" I says I got 6 left. He says " Them does need thinnin' out, some of them little bucks, too. I'll watch out the window in the morning, and when you got some down, I'll bring the truck." I says thanks Bill, be down there around daylight. Mind you, I watched all that show through my scope, 250 or so yards. This "hunting" is about 400 yards from my house. That's closer than the other neighbors house, by about 200 yards! Should cut down on my travel expenses during the hunt. It leaves the deer that come through my yard in case I get desperate. I suppose I better cut up the deer hanging in the entryway, make room for some more. Glad to hear everyone is having some "luck"

Ok, slept in, will have to wait 'til this afternoon to harvest a few does. Paws, land has tripled here in the last few years, but some can still be found at a reasonable price. The houses in town are still a lot less than out here in the boonies, but I like living out of town. Not sure of which side of the "tracks" I live on If your serious, I can send you a few listings. I did send a few listings to another guy, on the "other" board, he was after several hundred acres, willing to spend a couple million, a lot out of my range. The deer do well in the hay fields, and the elk will come down if there is a lot of snow up high. Road kill elk happens a couple of times a year, you can imagine what does to a car. Anyhow, they cut our tags from unlimited to 7 last year, but we still have an excess of deer. They say the elk herds are closer to management size, it may be bull only next year, we'll see. Fishing the Jefferson River is good, there are a couple of pools right behind the house that produce rainbow and browns. Turkey and pheasant hunting is real good, oh, and antelope. A friend got his antelope in Floyds pasture the other day (Floyd Lives a few hundred yards from me, farther than Bill's place) Just life in Montana. You all should know you're welcome here anytime, just stop in.

I was checking out some of the information about the town. Looks pretty reasonable actually. To tell the truth the wife has got me so livid I'm actually sick at my stomach. If I don't get this wrapped up and get the hell out of here I'm going to do something real stupid.

You know you can spend some time here, Phil, take a look around, see if you like the neighborhood. Silver Star and Twin Bridges are nice towns, they're just South of Whitehall, still small towns, though. Feel free to stop in

Send it to my email Tank and I'll post it. Do you have a photobucket album yet? Cause if you get one all you have to do is strike the "link" key for posting out stuff. It's free too.

I got 1 doe,two button bucks and a 5 pointer. The daughter got a doe in Indiana and missed two more does and a big 6 pointer then missed at a doe in Michigan. She saw about 20 deer all together and her first red fox in the wild. I neck shot a button buck in Michigan and she walked up on it and shot it again as it tried to crawl away.

Took the 4 deer to the processors yesterday. My bucks nose dragged on the ground even though he was cranked up as high as they could on the butchering line. Itty bitty rack but he was big bodied. Just they way I like them. The buck and the daughters doe went into sausage and the other two are being standard cut. The back-straps on all will be removed and packaged whole. Now for a Tn. deer.
