Satan has hooves? Doubtful, considering Lucifer was the #1 Angel in Heaven. Turkey buzzards in a cemetary. I think they may want to dig down a little deeper when they bury someone.

Never seen a doe?? I damn near drowned this molrning. Scouted my perimeter and just as I was cresting the hill top by the other house a shot rang out from where my cousin has his blind. I kind of walked a route to drive anything lingering his direction; might have paid off. Thaat was about a half hour ago so I should know something shortly. Not a lot of shooting but a few. So quiet out you could run a truck through the woods without being noticed.

An interesting "hunt" this year. We're so far behind at work we're going in 7 days a week. Got to end that soon, wearing me out, not much time for worship, not good! Anyway, I had only shot a couple of deer, and not hunting very hard. I was picking up hay last Sat, some people were heading into the pasture to thin the does, I said something like get 5 more, I'm outa time. Got a call at work later, 5 does were on the flatbed near the haystack. Gutted, their tags, just right. So, the freezer will have a little more meat in it. The Fish Cops extended the elk season 2 weeks, our kill ratio is not high enough to thin the herds, still have way too many elk in the foothills, and hay fields. Maybe I'll take some time and work on that problem. No word yet on a late deer hunt, we still have plenty whitetails in the fields, wouldn't be surprised if they give us another week, or two. Admittedly, I get to hunt a couple of pastures no one else get to, you know, take care of your neighbors (suck up) and they'll take care of you. A little later this winter I'm going to try and get a couple of pic's of the deer in Bill's pasture, just to drive some people crazy.

Watch out there rainguage. There's a few hunters from your neck of the woods stating the deer and elk have been wiped out by the wolves.

Lordie I guess I have bought and sold a half dozen of them in 12; all smooth bores. Never did find a rifled barrel I liked for one. Whoever that was shootin' yesterday wasn't my cousin and nobody else has permission to hunt there. I'm keeping an eye on that property line. Saw nothing this morning. Going back out around dark.

There's the problem. I've shot slug guns most of my hunting life and the one thing I found out that I know to be 100% fact is that a 20ga is as good as the 12ga and way better in some areas.I will never buy another 12ga slug gun.

Girly Girl's 8 point Red Stag:
We arrived a Mark's Place around 2 PM and sighted in the rifles...she shot twice one at 1/2" left of center and the other took off the top of the 10...good enough..mine were 1/2 high and right... still pretty good so it was off back to Cristy's for some quiet time and rest from the trip up...then diner at the Angler...not much sleep...excitement for the next day's hunt keep us up...up at 5 AM breakfast for her...just some bacon and a couple of eggs...she put most of the bacon in a zip lock to take with her...then it was back to Mark's for the hunt...he set us up in a nice box blind...with good shooting lanes to the north and west...we saw some critters moving about got some neat pics of a couple of Fallow Stags sparing about 70-80 yards from us...big bodied Red Stag with 16 pts and some hinds (female red deer) came in to feed on some apples that had been put down...most of them moved on and shadowed off in to the thickets..the big Stag stayed along with a couple of small hinds....we watched the pine squirrels stealing apples and run the up into the trees sticking them any place the could get them to stay... I heard some sounds from out of the south side of the blind but couldn't see anything at first then her stag came around the corner on the east side and into view..he had a good sized body (est live weight at 335-340 Pounds) he moved in real cautious...head up checking out the big guy that was still up the fire lane a ways...he move a bit farther to the east and headed to the north were the apples we out...I counted 7 points for sure and was pretty certain that he had 8pts, Girl Girl slid the bolt home and locked it down, sighted in on him, slipped the safety off and touched the triger...I honestly can't recall hearing the shot but saw the impact of the bullet as it entered his rib cage 1/3 the way up and about 4 inches back of his front leg..he took maybe 3 or 4 staggering steps set down on his haunches and flipped over backwards...I'm pretty damned proud of that there Lady...
If I could figure out how to post pics I would...
I shot a smallish Hind later that day..I made a big mistake and have been beating myself up for it ever sense..in my excitement I grabbed ammo that I thought was the new stuff but ended up being reloads that didn't preform as expected...I did something that I have never done in the 40+ years of hunting and that was that I HAD to take a SECOND shot to kill my animal...I think it's that most of all...
All in all we had a great time had wonderful hosts and we are making plans for next year's hunt...

Good show there TT and GG! Cousin Jimmy "gut shot" a button buck yesterday afternoon down in Meigs on his brother's place. Looks like it glanced off the spine into the abdoman paralyzing it to a ten yard crawl then death. Real mess to clean up. Jimmy's Dad asked for the shoulders and a ham so we are going down to the blind this morning in about half an hour and hunting my (use the trm loosely) and the neighbors property today. Up to 17 hollow in Trimble tomorrow. Oh, the neighbor says there are three guys from MI hunting his property this week. (Hope DaGriz isn't among them)

My toes are frozen! That's the trouble with hunting your backyard; too easy to go in the house and get some coffee! About an hour after I went out I had walked the perimeter working my way down into the woods to the blind. Then three hundred yards behind me in the front yard of my house next door there went an anterless one trotting across the yard. I had been standing there not a half hour earlier. At 24 degreees about two hours is all the old bones will take.

Well got home late Tues after hunting for 2days with my son,2 grandsons and a couple of others. Monday was absolutely a terrible day for hunting. Rained all day. But my son did take a small 4pt and I got a doe about the same size. He used a .44 mag Ruger handgun and I used my .54 traditional muzzleloader. My son has taken deer with about everything, longbow, compound bow, crossbow, muzzleloader, slug shotgun and now a handgun. When we got up Tues I ask what he was going to hunt with today and he said " A Rock". Smart as.. Tues was a much better day, weather wise. I saw several does but was holding out for a buck. The one grandson did take a doe with a 20guage slug about 4:45pm and it was dark before we got it out.BTW my sons was taken at 30/35 yds, mine was taken right at 50+or-.But the grandsons was taken at 75/80yards as near as we could figure.Sometimes it is hard to measure due to the terrain. Well all considered it was a great two days.I've hunted with my son for 20 years and the one grandson for 5 but this was my first outing with both grandsons. Let me tell you, deer or no deer, its great to hunt with your kids and grandkids.I have a granddaughter that might be 5/6 years away , but she will go in the woods with my son whenever he allows. She even watched and helped my son fieldress a deer without nightmares. My daughter-in-law was upset saying she might have nightmares about such an experience. My son told her that you have nightmares about the unknown not the known....Hmmm made seance to me! Well I have rambled long enough. Thanks for reading.... snake-eyes P.S. BTW paws if ever in Logan forget the Millport BBQ.The worst I have ever had.The ribs mite be OK the day they make them but I have a feeling I was eating something cooked several days ahead and re-heated more that once. What sauce that was on them was IMHO burnt.I got a full rack and could only eat 1/2 of it.My dinner was a take out but I don't think that should be an issue. My son and grandsons ate in house and had brisket and said it was ok.

I'm truly sorry to hear about that Millport. That's the only "Q" joint in a fifty miles of me and you know they do a land office business there. Never did eat there though. When I first got back in Ohio I had the wild idea of setting up a Q joint but the damned State approval office for the Health plans; well the dude might have well have come right out and said he wanted a bribe. I was asking for the plans, specs and requirements for the kitchen and service areas and I knew I needed a sand trap/grease trap along with a septic system including a collection tank, aerator, and chlorinator and the son of a bitch refused to provide any dimensions for the sand trap and grease traps. Just said they'd inspect them after they were built and either approve them or disapprove them. Eventually I gave up the idea due to frustration with them. So if you been there and know the food is bad and seen the business they do you got some idea of how we are hurting for a good Q joint! I kind of like your boy's idea of rock hunting! I used to be pretty darn good with a sling.
