Bow season's been open for a while noe and I was wondering if anybody's done any good. I had one hunt so far before a bout of pneumonia and a heart murmur have kept me out of the woods since an that was three weeks ago. I had a good hunt, but didn't make a kill.
I'll be back in the woods soon, but I'm hoping that you guys have fared better. I know Paws and Freddie ain't been out and Brian's had a couple of hunt, but missed a doe with his crossbow.
What about Mars, ET, Snake eyes and the rest of you guys? Any good?

Toby, I'm not a bow hunter, but my son is big into it.He has been out a few times without luck. I hunt deer exclusively with traditional blackpowder rifles, mostly .45cal but sometimes .50.I did promise my son I would go with him when the rut is in.I do own a Mathews C/P bow that I shoot very well within my range 30/40 yards or less.I can find time to shoot targets about anytime, but it is hard to get off work for deer hunting.I try to save my time for the gun season.Guess I'll have to save a couple days for a bow/rut hunt with my son. I'll let you know how I do. snake-eyes

Man what up with the everybody gettin' sick thing? I been under it too. Had three days where I just laid up on the couch and did nothing. Amazing how fast the daily routine stuff gets away from you and turns into disaster! No I haven't been out yet. On top of the routine I got involved in working with the Vets day parade committee and that has been keeping me busy along with annual pre-winter maintenance and put away. You know that song; "You Picked a Fine Time To Leave Me Lucille", well now I know what it's talkin' about.

I haven't been out with a bow yet but that's going to change. Saturday morning is the start of the bear season and new this year is that it's archery only and no dogs.I have a stand up and ready to go. Now if the bears would be accomadating I might stand a chance.A bear is the only animal that I've not taken that I want.

Down here, so far south, we get our first rut in late October every year, just before Halloween. It's not much of a rut, but you'll see fresh scrapes and maybe a buck chasing a doe or two if you're out. Now, we just had our first real cold front come through (58 this am on the front porch) and I just know the bucks are going to start up their pre-rut rituals; sparring, rubbing, etc... I'm feeling much better and might try a hunt this weekend. My black powder season doesn't open until the twenty-seventh and that's just right for a first rut hunt! I have every intention of hunting a day or two with the smokepole. I bought my first inline a little while back and it's ready to get broken in. I hope all of you guys that are under the weather get back on your feet and feeling good soon! Lots of season still ahead of us, but I'm jonesing big time!

Didn't make it out this weekend. Too many other things kept me busy and running all over 2 counties. I got alot done though including ordering my daughters and my hunting licenses for Michigan online.$16. for her and $278. for me. Great to be a kid sometimes.I make up for it because I have a lifetime Indiana license so I pay nothing for me but $150. per tag for her.

Nope, I didn't get in the woods this morning either, but I got a really cool morning out of it anyway. At 7:17am, my super-cute hunting buddy Tonya blew a big cloud of smoke from the end of her muzzleloader and at 7:20am, I get a phone call from a very excited ladywhispering in the phone about a hog at seventen yards and she's still in the treestand with me on the phone as she's reloading. Then...at 7:55am, our buddy Brian blows a big cloud of smoke from the end of his muzzleloader and at 7:57am, my phone rings and I get an breathless whisper on the other end telling me all about four points on one side and two on the other about seventy yards and he's lying right over there!" How cool is that??? They make the shot and then call me to share the moment! God love 'em both!

Only a couple of close calls. One with the van Saturday night (6-pt) and the other with the front door (nice gobbler). I woke up and thought I heard somebody out on the trailer steps. Went to see who it was and bammed him hard on the butt. Took off flying over towards Vern's place. Would have blasted him, but Mike sold Betsy so's we could get our AEP contract paid for.

I went out this morning after I got home.I saw a 5 point walk about 10 yards from me and continue up the creek and about a half hour later the turkeys came by for a visit. It started raining so I was back at the house at 8:30. Pretty nice to walk 80 yards from my backdoor and start hunting.

Well close now. I was on Hornymatches.com and this young lady down in Parkersburg (26 years old and real pretty) said she liked my picture and wanted to meet me but she doesn't do anal on the first date. I guess she must have read about me being an analyst and misunderstood!

Rude Prude! And to think to field dress a deer, I mean; what choice does she have?

A group of does and fawns came by this morning and walked right up to the base of my stand. A doe looked up and saw me and the whole group took off. It was neat seeing the curious look turn to the UH OH look on the doe. ;D
I'm done goofing around with them. I don't want to mess things up for the youth rifle hunt next weekend. I took my daughter to the range today and she was hitting the target all over the place. She said the scope must have been knocked off. I took the rifle and hit the top of the bullseye. She admitted that it must be her and she did alot better after that.

General season opened yesterday, too lazy to get up at daylight, so I waited for dusk. Those does did not have the decency to come through the pasture last night, had to wait until this morning. They came down a little before I was coffee'd up, so I only took one. Got 5 more doe tags, and an either sex. There are a few nice bucks in the neighborhood, we'll see what happens. The turkey flocks are stayin closer to town, about 30 hens, the flock just south of the house is still staying in the foothills, would have to walk a couple hundred yards to get them, I think I'll wait 'til they come back to the river. One of these days I'm going to entice Toby to come here, let him teach me how to call Merriams, He can sit on the back porch and get them to come the the bank of the river. Funny, no one around here calls the big birds.
