Paws has under the weather the last couple days....refused to allow me to take him to Urgent Care or ER. He thinks that he is now improving slightly. I took him some veggie soup and beef that I had canned along with a Tudor's Biscuit World Super Bkft. and OJ. Send him a get well wish....I just saw that he was on Face Book a few minutes ago. ;D

Talked with him this AM and he sounded better. It is seemingly chest congestion. He is taking an antibiotic. He is now able to cough-up mucus. He can't lie down to sleep, because it is very painful. He is eating and hopefully forcing fluids....I warned him about drinking milk as it causes issues with congestion and antibiotic. I took him a supply of Vit. C as well. May have to go get him some more OJ? I heard from a friend at church there is another type of pneumonia??? I only know of the bacterial and viral??? Keep him in your

What ever this crud is, it's no fun. Half our neighborhood has been down with this stuff. Neighbor gal is a nurse and seems to think that maybe this is a super bad allergy from high levels of mold spore and pollen in the air. She said timing/weather is just about right for a real good hatch. Not sure how Phil's developed, but here it started as just a runny nose & itchy eyes and very quickly settled into the lungs and sinuses with full force.
I told Phil if he don't follow "nurse Sharon's" orders that "ol' doc Faith" is coming over with her veterinary & herb box to fix him up.

I get the same crap 2 times every year...it is started by an allergic reaction; mold spores, tree pollens even some perfumes...first your sinuses get srcewed up and it drains into the chest (normally just into the bronical tubes..the mucus is very runny and does not come up well..but you cough your head off until you inflame the tubes and that's when the bacteria attacks...generally lower and upper lobe is caused by a virus and it is generally assoisated with untreated flu or sever colds...I know this stuff by heart, been listening to it for 5...er... a really long time, 2 times a year....if'n he don't feel better (able to breath and sleep at least plartailly flat) Dr. Faith do your thing....oh yeh I forgot..he needs to get some Vit D into his system..fresh fish (tuna or salmon) and or some liver..with onions of course....

Yep you nailed it on the head! Couldn't figure out why I got the "flu" every fall at Plain City. That soybean dust at harvest time was killing me. Now I'm in the woods and everything here is working it's course. I'm getting like my dad. He had allergy tests run about 25 yrs ago. There's not one plant or animal in the entire US that he's not allergic to. He's just learned to cope with it and the crud that comes with it all.
Hope you're hanging tough, Phil! Let us know you're alright.

Just returned from Paws. He slept last night lying down in bed for 9 hrs. in two installments. He does feel better and is now coughing up a great deal. No, I do not believe it is allergies. I believe that he was strongly knocking on pneumonia's door. He never had sneezing or runny nose prior to the severe chest pains. He asked, how long that he needed to take the antibiotic and I told him until it is gone!! Ha! No joke, either!! I took him over-the-counter drugs along with food relief. I tired a new Banana Nut Bread recipe from The Neely's on Food Network, Mac. Salad and Manwich so all he has to do is put it on a sandwich bun and heat, more OJ and Sugar-free Popsicles. He is planning to go into Athens to get his hair cut tomorrow?? He remains very weak.....still has not called to get the AC repaired. I told him that will probably do him-in as I do not think he realizes how weak he is. On my way to my local small Wally's a produce stand was open for the first time this year and I had to stop. I got a 5# basket of Ohio River Tomatoes (first picking at this farm), a dozen ears of bi-color corn on the cob. I split this with Phil as well. They also had green bell peppers and cumcumbers. So, I believe that he is over the worse of it and hopefully he will finish the antibiotic!! Please keep him in your prayer that he regains his power!! PS. Faith, I know what you are talking about with all the farm dust. When my Dad would combine oats/wheat....you would think it was his last breath when he went to sleep. But, he never for years admitted to us, his family, that he had asthma as a kid and all three of us kids had the stuff.

Paws, Let me tell you pneumonia is nothing to flirt with, especially at our age.If you remember,I got it at the beginning of 2009. I thought it was just a chest cold, and worked thru it.On my days off my 'chest cold' got so bad I could only breath sitting up.Well, another day went by before I agreed to go to the Hospital ER. Keep in mind I still thought I had a bad chest cold.Upon getting to the ER the first thing they did was take a chest x-ray.After that all hell broke loose. They stuck me here and there. The next thing I know, I woke up in a bed in a room with a large tube running out of my left upper side. When I finally got to talk to the Dr he told me and my wife,if I had waited another day before getting help,I would not have needed it! In total they took a little over a gallon of fluid of my right lung. No sir, pneumonia,or its symptoms are not to be messed with..IMO Take care of yourself, and listen to what your body tells you.

Talked with Paws this AM and Bruce, his cousin came last evening and is with him. I am so glad...still too Bull-Headed to have the AC repaired?? He sounded better on the phone and just by him knowing there is someone with him to care for the animals. I am going over tomorrow and taking some food. I hope that this bronchitis/pneumonia has ran its course and he can get some energy back, but I know it takes time.

Well it looks like pending divine healing this shit is not going to go away regardless of how effectively I ignore it. I guess I bite the bullet and put in the time and effort to intentionally and intensly manage it. Doesn't seem to be any other choices. I like to eat and eat a wide variety of things. To reduce the world of variety is very difficult for me. That's why I really enjoy buffets. Not so much the quantity but the variety. I can not begin to tell you how tough it is for me to cook and take meals solo. I love to cook and to share. Sharing meals is one of my very favorite things to do. Pile all that on my recent financial set backs and it feels like the world has taken a huge dump on my head. Well enough pitty party. Time to get serious and do everything I can to make sure I go to my coffin with both legs and a long time after I have thoroughly enjoyed pissing on my darling wife's tombstone! To begin with: The National Diabetes Association has published a list of things that a diabetic needs to eat. These include: Beans, avacodo, almonds, low carb/high fiber vegetables like brocolli, cauliflower, slpinach, etc, oats, salmon, catfish, firm lean fish, egg white, low fat yogurt. Fiber is getting a close scrutiny as the bold step of reducing the carbohydrate intake by one gram for every gram of fiber ingested has become practice. Fiber slows the absorption of carbohydrates converted into glucose. It appears that the omega 3 oils in the foods above slow down carbohydrate absorption as well. Also the omega 3s and the fats in the avacado seem to make the body more receptive to insulin thus reducing insulin resistance. The real biggie is body fat and weight control. For certain, reducing gut girth reduces diabetes. Reducing body fat/BMI does the same. Building muscle mass increases metabolism and reduces the amount of glucose in the blood while reducing insulin resistance. Following these things a well balanced diet is next in pecking order with regard to diabetes management. What your momma told you is true. Guys I'm going to need some help here. I get so damned discouraged with the bottom line of "what's the point?" Kick me in the ass every once in a while.

I guess you've seen the light......Again, I feel I'm back in control again...If you remember when we talked years ago about diabetes and cholestrol, my weight was bouncing from about 235 to 255....At one point in 2005 I almost topped out at 300lbs, and that was before you opened this board......Well today I can say My blood work is good, I'm also down to about 214lbs legit....I do eat a good amount of the items you've mentioned.....I still do my "Q", but again all in moderation....The following is an email I received from a good friend and I do believe I've posted about it in the past...Here it is....
Cinnamon and Honey Honey is the only food on the planet that will not spoil or rot. It will do what some call truning to sugar. In reality honey is always honey. However, when left in a cool dark place for a long time it will do what I rather call "crystallizing". When this happens I loosen the lid, boil some water, and sit the honey container in the hot water, turn off the heat and let it liquefy. It is then as good as it ever was. Never boil honey or put it in a microwave. To do so will kill the enzymes in the honey.
Cinnamon and Honey: Bet the drug companies won't like this one getting around. Facts on Honey and Cinnamon: It is found that a mixture of honey and Cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also accept honey as a 'Ram Ban' (very effective) medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases.
Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients. Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada , in its issue dated 17 January,1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by honey and cinnamon as researched by western scientists:
HEART DISEASES: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly and jam, and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also, those who have already had an attack, if they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and veins.
ARTHRITIS: Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated, practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain, and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain.
BLADDER INFECTIONS: Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder.
CHOLESTEROL: Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.
COLDS: Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and clear the sinuses.
UPSET STOMACH: Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears stomach ulcers from the root.
GAS: According to the studies done in India and Japan, it is revealed that if Honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.
IMMUNE SYSTEM: Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of Honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacterial and viral diseases.
INDIGESTION: Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food relieves acidity and digest the heaviest of meals.
INFLUENZA: A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural 'Ingredient' which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.
LONGEVITY: Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Take four spoons of honey, one spoon of cinnamon powder, and three cups of water and boil to make like tea. Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans also increase and even a 100 year old, starts performing the chores of a 40-year-old..
PIMPLES: Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste.. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm water. If done daily for two weeks, it removes pimples from the root.
SKIN INFECTIONS: Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections.
WEIGH LOSS: Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast on an empty stomach, and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. If taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.
CANCER: Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month three times a day.
FATIGUE: Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts, are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M. when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, increases the vitality of the body within a week.
HEARING LOSS: Morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts restores hearing. Remember when we were kids? We had toast with real butter and cinnamon sprinkled on it!

My buddy Kenny, LILKEN says at night after he takes his insulin he eats a handfull of "red hots". Says his glucose drops to normal right now with no waiting. I checked mine with a new meter about 1400 and it was 421. I'll check it again the same time tomorrow. I need to know which of these meters is and ain't working right. I worked the pedal gizmo last night about a half hour and my calves were so swollen I looked like Popeye!

Brother Phil, 421, what the heck are you eating?? Got up this morning, sugar was 122.... I'm on a scale with my insulin, I take one insulin once in the a.m and once in the pm.....The other insulin I take is based on a sliding scale ....If my sugar goes over 200, which today is considered normal, then I take some insulin in amounts based on a rising scale....In other words if my sugar is 200-250, I take 3 units.... Swollen legs,or what they call edema, is that due to diabetic neuropothy or your damn ticker is bad.....Do you feel pressure in your chest....If so, you should see a cardiologist....You may have had congestive heart failure and should be on a diuretic at times....I'm on fourisimide and take it as needed only if I feel heaviness in my chest, that's water building up in the sack....I also check my weight in the a.m and if I see I've gained some, I call my cardiologist right away while taking a nitro and diuretic....You have to check this out.....

Poor circulation. Swelling subsided when I went horzontal and raised them up a bit. I think the read might have been a funky strip as it is a new machine that has been sitting around a while and I'm not too familiar with it. This evenings was at 238 right after dinner. I'll use my old machine with new batteries tomorrow. Took my first injection of Victornex this evening.
